There is little to argue about your post.

Ergo, must thousands(?) or millions of ordinary Iranian citizens go without in order to have a nominal nuclear program?

Nobody in the Middle-East is ever going to use a nuclear device in any case.

Something like this will throw the entire planet into chaos and immediately create perhaps a dozen fringe countries launching weapons programs of their own.

The only way to mitigate such an event is if a nuclear first strike is followed by an inevitable counter strike.

Sad state of affairs in this world we all have to share with each other.
