With a remarkable amount of political impudence, Donald Trump announced that the United States intends to rule Venezuela, justifying this by saying that American control, as he says, will lead to a significant increase in oil production and guarantee fixed and huge revenues for American oil companies. He was not satisfied with this description, but also accompanied it with an explicit threat of a comprehensive invasion if Venezuela did not comply with this desire.

With this statement, the characterization of what Trump did moves from being an “American invasion of Venezuela” to being a full-fledged occupation. When one country invades another, for whatever reason - here the reason is declared without ambiguity; It is Venezuelan oil. The minimum moral claim required letting the people manage their own affairs and choose their new leadership in accordance with the constitution, especially when the presidential position became vacant.

According to this naked colonial logic, what remains of formal harmony requires Trump to go to the end and declare Venezuela the fifty-first state of the United States. This is more appropriate, in my opinion. Only then can the world acknowledge that this bandit has explicitly returned to the time of pure conquest, to the political barbarism that his Cowboy ancestors practiced among the Native Americans, and thus restores the spirit of the nineteenth centuries with contemporary insolence, where the strong ate the weak...

Blaming China or Russia in this matter is basically wrong.

The military of Venezuela appeared to be led by traitors. What could Chinese or Russian do? They cannot kill army generals of Venezuela and replace them lol. Venezuela's military allowed US forces into the country. A column of choppers in Caracas, that could be shot down by simple MANPAD, pointed to the fact that Venezuelan army didn't show slightest sign of resistance.

This treason of Venezuela's military generals led to bombing of Venezuelan oil refineries, historical sites and military bases. They were not only humiliated but also tasted the taste of being pathetic sellouts.

You enable treason, they bomb you in return. That's Trump logic idiots!

Venezuela was going to get bombed one way or the other. With or without giving up the president, Americans were going to bomb the country and its infrastructure.

Never give up! A big lesson to others.

He calls it like he sees it. He said the opposition leader machado doesn’t really have local support, so he and his cabinet will rule Venezuela via Maduro’s VP at basically gun point (threat of arrest).

BTW, there has been a phone call between Rubio and the Venezuelan Vice President, but the initial reports of the content of that conversation are wildly different thus far.

They are proud people. US cannot afford regime change wars anymore. It seems from reading Secretary Rubio's statement they're counting on some kind of outreach to current Venezuelan authorities

While also carrying the stick and using it

If Venezuelans get stubborn US is not going to deploy troops there. Especially not with US forces already spread across South China Sea, Europe, and Middle East.

If US commits to a large ground campaign in South America somebody in those three arenas is going to make a move.

Which one is all our guess
