Pakistan-Saudi Arabia mutual defense pact: News & Discussion

During my Umrah visit some time back, I encountered Pakistanis working at all levels in Saudi Arabia, from labor to office work to high positions as well. The bulk of them are manual labor. The impression I got was that the Pakistanis were hard working and didnt cause trouble. I also saw few Pakistani beggars which was very disappointing.

If Saudis are going to hire more Pakistani labor to meet their shortages, I think that is a positive. Yes Saudi and GCC never give citizenship or rights to expat labor but Pakistanis dont have any choices. Not everyone can afford a visa to go to West.

Pakistani govt needs to improve the level of the people it sends abroad. Skilled labor like electrician or carpenter are what Saudi really needs for its construction projects, not just manual labor.
During my Umrah visit a few years ago, I encountered beggars three times in Masjid-e-Nabawi — each time, they were Pakistani's with families.

During Hajj, I met a few children from Karachi(Rehri goth) in Arafat. They were standing outside in the scorching heat on the Day of Arafa, handing out shoe bags to everyone entering the tents. I truly salute those kids — that day was unbearably hot.

However, I agree that most of the people I encountered belonged to the working class.

We don't need Saudi to defend Pakistan

This agreement is about
Financial support during war
Oil/fuel supply during war
Diplomatic support during war
Collaboration and funding for weapons programmes

Pakistan has China, Turkey and Turkic world and Saudi as direct support now with multiple other nations as allies

If India attacks Pakistan, and if the Saudi Armed forces are not in Pakistan proactively engaged and helping to defend against India, then the people of Pakistan(ie the awaam) will insist and pressure for the treaty itself to be used as toilet paper. They may not understand the subtlety of your statements, they will insist on seeing concrete military help or they wont feel inclined to send soldiers and armed forces to Saudi Arabia.

The optics of the treaty are as important, as are the actual practical aspects of it.

Indian source but anyway

Security For Saudi, Economic Stability For Pakistan: Details Of The Defence Agreement | Exclusive

While Pakistan will deploy 25,000 troops in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh will invest $10 billion in Islamabad.

The strategic mutual defence agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia aims to ensure security stability for Saudi Arabia while fostering economic stability for Pakistan, a top source has told CNN-News18.

A top defence official who witnessed the drafting of the Pakistan-Saudi Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement has provided exclusive details of the agreement.

As part of the agreement, Pakistan will deploy substantial military forces in the Arabian Peninsula to protect Saudi Arabia from any aggression. In return, Saudi Arabia’s significant financial investment will bolster Pakistan’s economy, making it more competitive.

The deployment from Pakistan, the source said, will include four military brigades, two air force squadrons, and two naval fleets stationed in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, Pakistan plans to establish advanced air defence and rocket force command in collaboration with Saudi Arabia. Pakistan will also supply military equipment, ammunition, mortars, tanks, and short-range missiles to Saudi Arabia.

Initially, Pakistan will deploy 25,000 soldiers across various Saudi military bases and cities. Each Pakistani soldier will earn a minimum of 6,000 Saudi Riyals or approximately 1,600 USD per month, which is 200 USD more than a UN peacekeeping soldier. A single Pakistani military brigade is composed of eight units, and each unit consists of 850 soldiers. The four brigades will include armoured, artillery, infantry, and rocket forces units.

For command operations in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan will appoint a three-star lieutenant general, two major generals, and eight brigadiers. Pakistani air force and naval officials will collaborate with their Saudi counterparts in joint operations, training, and exercises.

Saudi Arabia is interested in acquiring Chinese technology similar to Pakistan’s, prompting Riyadh to sign a defence deal with Islamabad to procure Chinese military equipment for parallel defence against any threats. Saudi Arabia is keen to purchase JF-17 Thunders from Pakistan and J-10Cs from China, and discussions with Beijing about 5th generation jets to counter any potential threats from Israel are anticipated.

In return, Saudi Arabia will invest 10 billion USD in Pakistan’s infrastructure, economic, mining, energy, and security sectors. This investment aims to protect Pakistan from future economic defaults and sanctions.

Moreover, Saudi Arabia will boost its bilateral trade with Pakistan from 5 billion USD to 15 billion USD annually across all sectors. Riyadh will also use its diplomatic channels to normalise Islamabad’s relations with the world, especially with New Delhi and Kabul, striving to maintain a balanced and healthy environment between India and Pakistan.

No prizes for guessing why Saudi is suddenly keen on Chinese tech😉

Bro

I understand and hear you but Saudi forces would be as useless as a chocolate fireguard. I wouldn’t out them in charge of a kindergarten in our hour of need

I understand, but Pakistan and Saudi militaries are not interconnected

It would actually be more of a headache to suddenly invite Saudi into Pakistan to do anything especially In the midst of a conflict

At best Saudi Navy could help us secure the Arabian Sea and even then I don't know how strong the Saudi Navy is

What we need is financial and oil support in the midst of a conflict, backed by diplomatic support that others in the Arab and Muslim world will support

And financial support for both the country and military weapons programs outside of any conflict

Wouldn’t the reverse also apply ie Pakistani forces in Saudi Arabia, if so, then the treaty is completely pointless..

Their armed forces will not be that useful though and may actually get in the way.

A far better (and even optically meaningful) deployment of Saudi leverage would be an economic one. E.g. immediate embargoes against Indian interests. Whether KSA will actually do such a thing is doubtful IMHO.

Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lieutenant General Aamer Raza met his Saudi counterpart, General Fayyadh Bin Hameed Al-Rowaily, in Riyadh to discuss broadening strategic ties and strengthening the mutual defence agreement signed by the two nations, the military’s media wing said on Friday.

The two countries have long shared a multifaceted relationship rooted in strategic military cooperation, mutual economic interests, and shared Islamic heritage. These ties have encompassed economic assistance and energy supplies, with Riyadh being a significant source of financial aid and oil for Islamabad.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), “matters of mutual strategic interest” were discussed during the meeting, including strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, enhancing interoperability and advancing collaboration under the mutual defence agreement.

“Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the long-standing fraternal ties between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, contributing towards regional peace, stability and self-reliance,” the ISPR said.

The ISPR added that a special meeting of the Pakistan-KSA Bilateral Defence Industrial Forum was also held in Riyadh. Pakistan’s tri-services delegation was led by Lt Gen Raza, while Khalid Al Biyari, Assistant Minister of Defence for Executive Affairs, led the Saudi delegation.

“During the bilateral meet, both sides reviewed the progress of ongoing defence cooperation projects and discussed new avenues for joint ventures in emerging technologies in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030,” the statement read.

“CGS reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for the capacity building of the Royal Saudi Defence Forces,” the ISPR added. “[The] Saudi leadership appreciated Pakistan’s commitments, achievements and sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and vital contributions to regional peace and stability.”

In mid-September, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signed the “Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement” in Riyadh, pledging that any attack on either nation would be treated as an act of aggression against both.

“This agreement, which reflects the shared commitment of both nations to enhance their security and to achieve security and peace in the region and the world, aims to develop aspects of defence cooperation between the two countries and strengthen joint deterrence against any aggression.”

Suddenly a united military doesn’t look such a bad idea.

Great idea. We Muslims face an existential threat around the world, and should unite.

A good idea. A Muslim NATO has been needed for a long time but foreign machinations have kept it from forming. Such an alliance will be immediately tested however.

There is alot of going on with UAE traitors

The fact this is being discussed says it all. Why wait? Riyadh kick out UAE and cancel all agreements with UAE! Emirates are so cancerous… to us all.

Yup! Not just Saudi Arabia, now it is ALGERIA

Investigation reveals that Algeria is weighing a break with the UAE over alleged support for separatism

The report shows that Algeria is seriously considering severing diplomatic ties with the United Arab Emirates, with an announcement potentially imminent, according to sources close to the Algerian presidency. The move follows what officials describe as hostile Emirati actions, including alleged backing of separatist elements, most notably the Kabylie self determination movement classified by Algeria as a terrorist organization.

Sources indicate that investigations are underway into the funding of the movement, with attention focused on networks operating through Europe and efforts to secure residency and protection for separatist figures.

Algerian authorities view this as an attempt to internationalize an internal issue and undermine state sovereignty through indirect pressure.

The outcome is a sharp escalation. Algeria no longer frames the issue as a diplomatic dispute but as a national security threat, prompting a reassessment of its relationship with Abu Dhabi. A rupture, if confirmed, would signal a decisive response to what Algiers considers foreign interference and set a powerful precedent in regional politics.
