Venezuela - US Conflict: News, Updates

A snapshot of the NY Times front page right now. I don't think it is going to take long--perhaps no later then mid year--to find if the attack on Venezuela happened after some 'understanding' with China or not. We are surely living in very interesting times!!

What other minerals does Venezuela have?

The 2018 minerals catalog estimated:

  • Certified coal reserves of roughly 3 billion metric tonnes
  • 14.68 billion metric tonnes of iron ore, of which 3.6 billion are proven
  • 407,885 metric tonnes of nickel reserves
  • Measured bauxite amounting to 99.4 million metric tonnes
  • Reported reserves of diamonds amounting to 1,020 million carats in the Orinoco Mining Arc and 275 million carats alone in the area of Guanaimo

Venezuela has announced an "exploratory diplomatic process" with the United States.

"A delegation of diplomats from the U.S. State Department has arrived in the country and will conduct assessments related to diplomatic missions."

Venezuela's new president, Delcy Rodríguez, has requested permission to travel to Washington next Tuesday, including a possible visit to the White House - ABC International

NOTE: ALL of it confirms that there is no "capture of Maduro" but another agreement was made, just like the one in Syria.

Don't worry.

Venezuelan people are in the process of choosing and will have chosen their preferred destiny. The fact that Venezuela's pre-conflict anti-zionist posturing has been reversed is a mere happy coincidence. Maduro categorically wasn't removed for this purpose. He was autocratic and rejected the outcome of an election, so had to go for the benefit of Venezuelans.

And that's all folks.

During the attack to capture Maduro, I think several dozen guards/soldiers and innocent people on the ground died. Hardly any mention of them in the media or even here. Life is cheap in poor countries, I guess. RIP to them!

Of course. Even back home in our own country, there isn't much value in life either.

US President Donald Trump met with oil executives in Washington on Friday, as he pushed for major investments in Venezuela.

But no major financial commitments were immediately forthcoming from the meeting, with the head of ExxonMobil warning the South American country was currently "un-investable".

Trump has said he expects big oil companies to direct "at least" $100bn (£75bn) toward the country, but industry analysts have warned many companies will be reluctant to go into a situation that still carries significant risk.

Executives of the biggest US oil majors who attended the meeting acknowledged that the country, which is sitting on vast proven oil reserves, represents a major opportunity.

But at a press conference with Trump they warned they would need to see significant changes inside Venezuela, as well as a welcome from the local government and its people, to make it an attractive place to put money.

"We have had our assets seized there twice and so you can imagine to re-enter a third time would require some pretty significant changes from what we've historically seen and what is currently the state," Exxon's chief executive Darren Woods said. "Today it's un-investable."
Venezuela has had a complicated relationship with international oil firms since oil was discovered in its territory more than 100 years ago.

Chevron is the last remaining major American oil firm still operating in the country, while a handful of companies from other countries, including Spain's Repsol and Italy's Eni, both of whom were represented at the White House meeting.

Exxon and ConocoPhillips, which was also in attendance, have been fighting to recoup billions in dollars they say they are owed after the 2007 nationalisation of their assets.

Trump has alluded to the issue repeatedly this week to justify his intervention, including on Friday, but he downplayed the chances of recovery in the meeting, echoing comment by other administration officials in recent years who said the repayment of those debts was not an immediate priority.

Venezuela sits on top of some of the world's largest reserves.

But its production has dropped off sharply in recent decades due to disinvestment and mismanagement - not to mention US sanctions, which have limited its access to the global market.

At roughly 1 million barrels per day, the country's production now accounts for less than 1% of global supply.

The White House has said it is working to "selectively" roll back those restrictions, but Trump officials have also made clear they intend to exert control over sales of Venezuelan oil, as a way to maintain leverage over the Venezuelan government.

The US this week has seized several oil tankers carrying sanctioned crude. US officials have said they are working to set up a sales process, which would deposit money raised into US-controlled accounts.

"We are open for business," Trump said.

Chevron said it expected to bolster output, building on its current presence, while Exxon said it was working to send in a technical team to assess the situation in the coming weeks.

Repsol, which currently boasts output of about 45,000 barrels per day, said it saw a path to triple its production in Venezuela over the next few years under the right conditions.

Executives at other firms also said Trump's promises of change would encourage investment and they were hoping to seize the moment.

Folks, gentle reminder: because I am actively participating in this thread, some (considerable) leeway is being given regarding what is posted. But, that leeway comes with limitations.

Lmaoo thanks for the laughs bro 😂

"Venezuelans choosing", "anti-zionist is happy coincidence", "for benefit of Venezuelans".

Can't make this $h!+ up. I am so disappointed in my fellow human beings for not learning from history. Or maybe I am the problem, expecting people to be reasonable in a world of ulterior motives.

Freedom for Afghans, Iraqis, Libyans etc. Maduro was autocratic but the Sheikhs of UAE, Saudi, Cheep Paild Mashallah are not dictators.

Give me a break!!

I have history & facts at my side.
No, you do not. What you have are your own interpretations, which is your right to do so.

Absurdity...

It is a dishonorable tactic to abduct a head of state because in protection service, assassination require more resources.

The descent into this level of absurdity tells the world that really you do not know what you are talking about. If a head of state is that careless, meaning he differentiate the two possibilities in terms of allocating his protective details, then maybe he deserves whatever happens to him. To put it bluntly. The worst is assassination, so why would any head of state assume that he maybe abducted? How would he know intent in the first place? If a group of armed men coming his way, he is going to take time to ponder assassination or abduction?

Actually, Maduro was captured, not abducted. The US had a bounty on him.

Heads of states are better off dead than alive. All of them know or been briefed before they became heads of states. That Maduro was CAPTURED ALIVE is what surprised everyone. The movies would have a head of state abducted. The US military executed a movie scenario. Now, all US enemies are on the alert.

You need much larger antennas on growlers wings to generate 1-2 meter+, longer wavelengths.
Actually...No.

The coarseness of the VHF bands already made interference easier. The above example does not mean the AE-18s carried jamming antennas that small sizes. We do not need complete interference, just partial will suffice. You were correct in that long wavelengths arrays directs shorter wavelengths arrays towards the 'stealth' target. But all we need is %20-30 interference to negatively affect that guidance, to induce uncertainty which inevitably create longer delays of HUMAN response time.

Russian and Chinese propagandists will redirect attention to the age of the hardware they sold to Venezuela, but to our potential enemies, they bought the same hardware, and if they bought the same hardware, they bought the same training and combat doctrines, and since the Venezuelan air defense failed...???

What I'm confused about it why being actively jammed didn't immediately trigger their jets to scramble. Did USAF hit all their major air bases before they got the chance?
First...Do YOU know the time required to start, taxi, and takeoff?

Second...What was the state of the Venezuelan Air Force?
