See other people are talking the same thing how will it stack up against f15. People think f15 is heavy fighter so jf17 being light fighter will just flee. In war israel and neighbouring countries have f15 which makes ksa f15 data vulnerable for ksa as israel has idea about it. Jf17 will be something different. Not for air superiority but for standoff weapons, force multiplier, ground attack, ashm role.

Ksa is going against qatar which has relations with israel.

@Michael How likely is it that China could shift it's side of production of the JF-17 Thunder to Saudi Arabia to be license built, and the aircraft will become a joint venture between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in the near future?

I think China probably wants to concentrate on other bigger aircraft.

Again, China does not have a JF-17 production line.

CAC is currently focusing all its core efforts on 5th-generation fighter production, 6th-generation fighter research and testing, and 7th-generation fighter preliminary research. They are no longer interested in 4th-generation fighters.
Regarding the JF-17 project, CAC has transferred all relevant work that PAC can handle to PAC. As for whether Saudi Arabia is interested in producing the JF-17, they can negotiate with Pakistan.

CATIC, in principle, basically agrees with Pakistan's decision and has no intention of participating. In their view, it would be best if Pakistan could take over the JF-17 project entirely and no longer rely on them. ------ The "FC-1 project" department under CATIC has been downgraded from a "department level" to an "office level."

With aesa and PL-15 the JF-17 is already ahead of even best western non fifth Gen jet fighters.

I think that's what the alpha project is about, Pakistan taking gradual complete ownership of the project

I think CATIC would happily support Pakistan in taking in the project years ago, but Pakistan simply wasn't ready

It's taken a long long time and many years of struggle and effort just to get to this point, this is a reflection of Pakistans domestic industrialization or lack of it to be more accurate

With Alpha and PFX I think Pakistan is hoping for a product not only for Pakistan but to take the place of the Mig 21 took in the late last century

And to bank on Chinese 5th and eventually 6th gen aircraft as a spear tip

Oh wow. When did CATIC passed on everything to PAC?

Many Pakistani friends are not very familiar with the actual scope of work of the relevant Chinese organizations in the JF-17 project. Let me briefly summarize it for you:

Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute (611 Institute):
The design organization for the JF-17.
Chengdu Aircraft Industry Company (132 Factory):
Currently assists PAC in manufacturing certain load-bearing structural components of the JF-17 that they cannot manufacture themselves.

Within the AVIC management system, these two organizations are at the same level. However, due to their very close relationship, they are generally referred to collectively as CAC by outsiders.

Since the JF-17 fighter jet incorporates many subsystems supplied by various vendors, AVIC's subsidiary CATIC, which handles foreign trade, has a dedicated organization called the "FC-1 Project Office." This office is responsible for foreign trade matters and coordinating with domestic suppliers. ------ All commercial and supply chain matters related to the JF-17 between Pakistan and China are handled and coordinated by this office.

Due to their heavy workload, the 611 Institute and Factory 132 urgently need to concentrate all their human resources on higher-priority tasks. Therefore, they urgently need to minimize the impact of lower-priority tasks such as those related to the JF-17 and J-10 aircraft.
Oh wow. When did CATIC passed on everything to PAC?
The sales rights have been largely transferred to Pakistan.
The production issues stem from problems within PAC itself, making it difficult for them to take over the manufacturing of certain components. This is mainly due to limitations in equipment capabilities and overall industrial capacity.
The intellectual property rights will not be relinquished; CATIC will retain them unless PAC purchases CATIC's share.

Its been a gradual process

Originally Pakistan produced about 58% of the JF17 and I think at the moment that's been gradually edged up to about 70%, with more to come

No it hasn't.

No it hasn't.

You may be right, but I saw a interview, discussing this and it was regards to what's being discussed above, with Pakistan needing to take more ownership of the project and CATIC etc needing to concentrate on other things and Pakistan gradually pushing up it's production rate of the JF17s

At the time I just thought, "makes sense"
