India Economy Thread

That is a useful summation

World leading in AI..... Because we say so.

We will not accept a China lead Asia, but don't compare us to China because they are much ahead.

World might be leading in AI but we have people that need job!

We will not accept anyone lead anything. Being lapdog is not something we do well. We were founding member of NAM! You think so small! But some countries have little self respect, I suppose.

The world is already leading in most things ahead of India are they not?

So you are accepting it, that's my actual point on this thread, I just wanted to understand the basis of India's claim to be a major AI force as things are at this moment

Nam, lol, the Nehru project that has been ditched.

You also ditched Gandhi.... Because self-interest you know.

The point here is, you can't be everywhere always beyond superficial association

Yes everyone and every body is doing much better than india
Are you content now ,?

Now the Indian Forex is over 700 billion
When will Indian gdp cross the 5 trillion dollar mark ?
I think summer of 2027

When? In dollar terms it is a tough dream since we keep sliding the scale. Lets see what rebasing brings. RBI is letting rupee slide on purpose. I am all in for gold and silver this year.

That is your point. Who is going to tell us otherwise? Mighty superpowers and their sidekicks? Such a hard concept to swallow, right? Nah, we did it back in 60s and now we are too heavy to budge. Let these mighty powers bring it in!

What we need is privatization of discoms and massive investment in transmission. Need to bring down the cost which is too high.

@r3alist bro

during China's high growth phase they were also setting up the base to lead and deliver in bleeding edge technologies. This is also reflected in university rankings

Well, the Chinese sorted out a lot of their HR development issues- education, healthcare, skilling, nutrition and sanitation- before they embarked on liberalisation and globalisation. That is why once they did embrace the LPG era, they did a much better job of growth and development than the Indians have. Same is true of all East Asian Tigers.

Very true. Even in 80s, China was way way ahead of India in these things and gap only widened (insanely) by the time China really took off. Some states in India have done a better job, many have not. So as a whole, we can't compare. But in pockets, results are far better. TN for example is finally getting its feet. If only they had civic sense and well built cities. Kerala has s..t at economics. MH, GJ, AP, ....etc are mix bag.

Best news is that UP is finally coming out of slumber. No state can impact Indian fortune more than UP. It is behind in everything while having most people. I hope Yogi sticks around for a decade (knowing UP chances are not good) or more.

Let's stop comparing with china
Plus 10% growth for 30 years is unprecedented

India was the most powerful richest country in the world for centuries

We did it before we can do it again

Our Peninsular dominates guards the Indian ocean the biggest busiest trade route on the planet

China and south east Asia to the left and gulf states to the right

Largest consumer market in the world
Fifth largest gdp
More graduates in science and engineering than any nation on the planet
Keep growing at 7% as we have been doing for decades plus
Hit 5 trillion. Next year
10 trillion by 2035
25 trillion 2047 we will.arrive late but we will.arrive

@r3alist bro

What we need to benchmark with China is not what they have achieved but what did they do to get there. Some of what they did can be achieved easily here, some of it with some difficulty and some not at all. A careful planner must take care of that.

Then that is a benchmark

In any case you are asking to have the same opportunities China had 30 years ago, and complain that you do not get this largess from the West.

I don't see how you can avoid the Shadow of China.

Ok you can celebrate every factory made across the entirety of India, but India is three or four percent of global manufacturing, China is something like 30 or more, that too in value add and top tier research development and product.

China has The foundations for exponential development, this is a daunting thought for Indians I know, in fact I do not think the concept is understood or discussed

Another way to appropriately illustrate this is your tejas program is coming onto half a century, in that time China has an entire fleet of fifth gen fighters, their own engines and are looking at the next gen already. That is manufacturing research, delivery, and everything else delivered. If you want to learn from the Chinese, create your own h1b to attract the Chinese into India 😇🙃
