Crippling Bangladesh's defense logistically. Weapons win you battles, but logistics win you wars...Maintaining 3 different platforms is a no joke.

The fact is we have been dealing for almost 30 years with Mig29 and their crappy third class RD-33 engines, yet now we are choosing our next gen fighter with similar crappy engine, tells you how ফকির we are mentally and materially.
Im thinking, with 800 millions USD, we could have bought 4-5 SAMP/T NG air defense systems. But NOPE, our super duper air martials want fighter jets for airshow...
.
How is the engine crappy? Pakistan has successfully operated this engine, and prefers it over the WS-13 that was developed by China for the jet. If Bangladesh has has issues with the engine, it suggests issues local training, local support, and overall maintenance practices in the BAF than the engine itself.
Bruh, Pakistan's supposed 'succesful' experience doesn't make it technologically advanced. it's service life is around 2000 hours. Third class even by russian standard. European engines have a service life of 6000-8000 hours. EJ200 is also easier to maintained. I am not bashing JF17. But these are facts about RD-33/93.
We are looking for next generation warfighting platform that needs to be much more advanced than MIG29 in every aspect. Including propulsion.
An IADS system without an airforce to cover it, is just a target.
Everything is a target in a war. But your conclusion is not correct.
In fairness, the RD33 had its first run 17 years before the EJ200. The RD33 had similar life cycle to the RB199 and M53. It was designed with a different philosophy in mind, however, depending on output, you've got up to 4000h life with a 1000h TBOBruh, Pakistan's supposed 'succesful' experience doesn't make it technologically advanced. it's service life is around 2000 hours. An IADS system without an airforce to cover it, is just a target. An airforce that is not backed by an effective IADS is also a target. You need both of them to compliment each other with overlapping capabilities, to form a defensive shield.
Iran bet big on "just" having an IADS and it got hit hard by Israel where most of the IADS was taken apart and destroyed.
Bangladesh needs both the SAMP/T NG "and" a fighter jet ( beit Eurofighter, or J10CE or JF17CE ). If you can purchase both, then probably not worth getting either on its own and Bangladesh should re-orient its foreign policy with its neighbours on that basis.
Your point is valid. But we have limited resources, so chronologically we should prioritize layered Air defense systems over fighter jets...An IADS system without an airforce to cover it, is just a target. @LeonBlack08 @AbuShalehRumi wft are they doing? BD simply cannot logistically manage three types of fighters. I guess if this purchase goes three, second type of aircraft would be either J10CE or Typhoon.

You cannot cheap out on essential warfighting capabilities. We need to get out of this mentality. It is imperative to spend a sizable amount (even if it is not easy) if you want something actually deterrent worthy. I am not sure JF17 changes anything significantly w.r.t to Myanmar. They already have the aircraft and can procure block 3 in the future.

At this point theyre more of a drag than force multiplierThey will have to decommission the Migs.
Ukraine has significantly more strategic depth than Bangladesh, smaller countries are basicallly cooked in terms of AD when facing larger opponents unless they are on the level of IsraelWell, Iranian example is not valid. Because the best air defence they had available against Israeli F-35 was older model of S-300. Which obviously had no chance. Their so called indigenous stuff was cr*p.
A better analogy would be Ukraine. Yes it has an air force but that is outdated and mostly run strike missions is not capable of seriously challenging Russian AF. However Ukrainian still managed to keep Russian AF (relatively) at bay and impose cost with advanced western ground based AD systems.
Advanced AD systems are much more critical than fighter fleet when you are against a conventionally superior adversary (by a significant margin) and cannot expect to come close to their fleet size.
Yes, ultimately we prefer to have both fighters and IADS. But IADS must be prioritised before Typhoon, J10CE or JF17 B3.
UK would like to disagree with that consensus based on past records of their air forceUkraine has significantly more strategic depth than Bangladesh, smaller countries are basicallly cooked in terms of AD when facing larger opponents unless they are on the level of Israel
