The Iraqi government, which is mainly Shia, welcomed this transfer since they don't have faith in the new Syrian government. On the other side, Damascus supported this move because it benefits them by removing the last leverage the PKK had with Western countries. Meanwhile, the US gave its approval because Washington thinks that if a new armed conflict arises between Damascus and the PKK, the latter might release DAESH fighters to pressure the Syrian government and damage the new administration's reputation internationally.
Now, the Iraqis are hoping that governments from around the world will bring back their citizens.
A rare case where the regional interests were all in line.
Our Iranian friends are articulating conspiracy theories over this issue but they leave out the fact that Shias are going to guard these prisoners. Besides, the US is still bombing DAESH remnants in Syria regularly.
Washington is not going to use ISIS against Iran. They will play the PKK card against them.

this is CIA we are talking about , no cards are of the table for them ,if they use them they wont be ISIS anymore probably some new group .

The Gameplan is that the US is leaving Syria.
Al Tanf has already been exited, and now the PKK areas are slowly being evacuated. We might soon come to a point where only the Russian base in Latakia remains, as well as the Turkish bases, and no other presence(outside of the zionist incursions in the south, but thats a different matter).

The Iranian trolls are too dumb to understand this. All the conspiracy theories about OMG Syria is releasing ISIS to go after Iran or whatever, when the main perpetrators of the insurgency is coming from the Israeli/CIA backed PJAK/PKK, that irocally they supported against Turkey as a hedge. And that the ISIS attacks in Iran are not Syrian in origin but from ISIS Khorasan and coming from their eastern border. But their default setting for the last 15 years has been to attack and blame Turkey, and they are unable to read current dynamics in the region effectively.

ISIS is not really a factor, the ISIS stuff is last decade, the new proxies are the PKK umbrella group. Their biggest threat is the PJAK which uses the KRG as a launchbed for attacks into Iran. Israel has a Mossad base in the KRG and the US built its largest Consulate in Erbil, which it uses to run CIA operation out of.
