Pakistan will participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 but will not take the field in its scheduled match against India on February 15, the government said on Sunday, confirming a politically sensitive decision ahead of the global tournament.

In a post on the government’s X account, it said: “The Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan grants approval to the Pakistan Cricket Team to participate in the ICC World T20 2026, however, the Pakistan Cricket Team shall not take the field in the match scheduled on 15th February 2026 against India.”

The decision to go ahead with the match came after the BCB earlier formally requested Pakistan to play their match.

In a statement issued today, the BCB president said: "Following my short visit to Pakistan yesterday and given the forthcoming outcomes of our discussions, I request Pakistan to play the ICC T20 World Cup game on February 15 against India for the benefit of the entire cricket eco system.”

The statement expressed gratitude to the PCB, ICC and all involved parties for their "positive roles in trying to overcome recent challenges".

In particular, the BCB said it wished to express its "profound and heartfelt gratitude" to Naqvi, the board itself and the cricket fans of Pakistan.

"Throughout this period, the PCB has demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship and solidarity," it said.

The statement quoted Islam as saying: “We are deeply moved by Pakistan’s efforts to go above and beyond in supporting Bangladesh during this period. Long may our brotherhood flourish."

Lol

I missed all the fun!

Bravo BD for pulling out.

Hinduvta turds got their fans into a frenzy then claimed they couldn’t provide protection for a star Bangladeshi player.

@SoulSpokesman what’s this, bro?!!

That’s not “cricket”!
Or SupaPawa India! What kind of SupaPawa cannot provide protection for a cricket player??

Of course, we know this is all bullshit!

Just slum level thuggery!!

I see Pakistan bottled it!
Leaving Bangladesh exposed like 1965.

BJP Hindutva thugs keep proving the point that India is not safe for Bangladeshis and BCB was absolutely right to boycott the world cup.

Well! It wasn’t Bangladeshis who claimed India isn’t safe for Bangladeshi cricketers.

It was the Indian government and their cricket board.

That’s the reason they gave for terminating Bangladeshi player’s contract.

That left Bangladesh with no other option than to either withdraw or seek non-Indian venues.

Bangladesh got no support. Even from the so called “brotherly nation”.

Soothing words for TV and social media isn’t enough. Action is what was needed.

But we already know how Pakistan acts - always number 1.

We learned that bitter lesson in 1965.

By we, I mean 2/3 of the Bangladeshi population.

No. India never provided an official reason, even though everyone knew it was due to security reasons.

But when Bangladesh brought up the issue, they denied it and ICC disregarded it.

Bangladesh position has always been that if you can't provide safety to one player, how are you going to provide security to entire contingent including supporters.

These Hindutva thugs just proves Bangladesh's point.

I have seen this as the reason given by Indian officials on NDTV, “inclusion could lead to protests or disturbances”.
Well! That’s clearly a security threat.
If one player’s inclusion can lead to “protests and disturbances” than what would happen if 22 players and staff turned up?
They clearly dug their own grave!
You cannot use one excuse for a solitary player.
Then claim the opposite for 22 players and staff 🤣🤣

That’s even a stretch for Chanakya “diplomacy” 🤣🤣

I don't mean to be rude, but please read this entire thread properly.

India's official stance has always been it's safe for Bangladesh to play and there is no security concerns. Based on the same ICC denied the BCB request.

Doesn't matter what newspaper says. BCCI was in a complete denial mode and manipulated other members to vote against Bangladesh.

These guys changed their excuse when Bangladesh pushed back hard.

Initial reason given was definitely, “security”.

They didn’t expect BD to turn the tables on them.

I think you should see the chronological order of their excuses.

I am pretty sure “security” was the thing they led with first.

Anyway, Bangladesh did the right thing regardless of their evolving fairy tale.
