Trump was very tough on China in his first term and tried again in the beginning of his second term but failed. World situation has changed much since he first took power.

China got bluffed by his first term, and now China is completely immune to it.

China also got much stronger than the version that he encountered during his first term.

However, he is not giving up, and he is still trying to humiliate China by destroying Iran in front of it.

Even Iran is not willing to cooperate with China, and believe they can be spared by distancing themselves from China.

For Trump, Iran is become a sacrificial lamb for his continuous proxy war with China.

It was not "completely defenceless" nor "caught off guard".

Rather, the type of weaponry used simply cannot be defended against. A US missile strike can only be absorbed and then retaliated against.

Doesn't Iran have CIWS systems that can fire 4000-5000 rounds a minute to take out enemy cruise missiles and PGMs?

Whoever plans first and executes first by launching attack first gains massive advantage in both causing the first major blow and for its own defense.
