I'm not denying Iran has the capability but I think a lot of people.

I here seem to be under the impression that the USN is some minnow. Frankly some of the claims are downright comical.

No one in their right mind can assume USN as anything less than a behemoth.

But geography cannot be changed. 96km width is nothing even for cheap COTS made drone these days. Drones are inherently harder to defeat due to low RCS and expensive C-UAS systems.

A swarm of drones and missiles will very well smoke a USN escort. They are extremely strong but not invincible, especially to such asymmetric tactics.

Sinking ships is a double-edged sword. Most countries do not want a global recession and would not want passage through the Straits of Hormuz to be more permanently impaired. If Iran starts sinking ships, it will turn countries that are still relatively on the fence against it.

Yes it is, but Iran is fighting for its survival right now, that is their primary concern.

Israeli extreme censorship of their cities and sites of impacts should have been in view of IRGCASF. They should have either slipped in quad-copter drones and some agents to record them for propaganda purposes.

Yes it is, but Iran is fighting for its survival right now, that is their primary concern.

And according to Iran itself, IRGC is operating through a decentralised "Mosaic" system. Alot of IRGC commanders wouldn't give a rat's arse about the trade implications.

Who attacked Cyprus, Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan is the mystery right now. Could be Iran just lashing out uncontrollably or it could be Israelis/Americans trying to drag others into this war.

Iran has very clearly announced whichever places it has attacked and called them out for hosing the US bases. Their reps have also appear on Aljazeera to take responsibility and explain their actions to people of UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar.

In case of KSA, Azerbaijan, etc, they have not taken any responsibility. Would be odd if they clearly take responsibility for some of the attacks and then refuse others. I'd rather only go with what they are taking responsibility for, unless there is clear proof that they attacked the other countries as well.

At 96km wide, Iran has sufficient level of systems that can impose a blockade without a needing a navy. How many ship captains will want to run the risk of being fired at, even if Trump "honours" his insurance requests and there is some USN ship as an escort. The commercial world is quite risk adverse in general.

I was thinking the same thing.
Even if just one ship is sunk or majorly damaged...
