The problem is USA has safe and sound industrial base back at home that can churn out the weapons according to operational needs.
Contrarily,Iranian Industry is at halt and any bullet that's fired is gone, mean you can't replace that.
So in purely weapons replenishment context, Iran will be at a huge disadvantage if war stretches out for months (the infamous War of Attrition).

further, taking your argument forward, opposition exists in every country. Is it USA's job to arm it or facilitate it against the government?
