PAF SAM based Air Defense System - News, Discussion & Updates

Can Pakistan work with turkey or China for an improved version of sungur or Yetian-Yema for a highly mobile SHORAD?

Both options are single unit, usable in a paved and unpaved terrain, are highly mobile (on offer a 4x4) with a missile range of 8 km and with an altitude of 6 km (19,000 feet).
Yetian-yemma is a hybrid system of TY90 missile + 12.5 mm gun. The TY90 missile in yetian-yema is 1.9m in length, 90mm diameter and under 20kg. Sungur is non hybrid and PORSAV missile 1.7m in length, 82mm in dia and with a weight of 14kg.
Given that the range and altitude of TY90 and PORSAV missiles leaves a bit to desire, a modified/ improved version of either, with even an added weight of a few kgs +/- an increase length of 0.3m +/-, can theoratically still be possible on a 4x4 and will easily increase the missile range by a 1/2 kms and altitude by 0.5 to 1 km. Most drones including MALE and low flying jets would come within range while providing excellent manoeuvrability of a 4x4 and will be easier to deploy/hide than the 6x6 currently used by SPD/rocket force.

Alternatively,
If a modification of the SHORAD missile is cost prohibitive in yetian-yemma then perhaps we can use the same yetian-yema setup of TY90 missile but increase its on-offer CIWS. The unit originally comes with a 12.5mm Gun (600RPM, effective range 1500meters) which can be replaced with a rotatory 12.5 mm gun (LM5) that would increase the rate of fire from 600RPM to either 1000 or 3000RPM (user selected). An option for higher penetration (from 15-20mm at 500 meters to that of 32-34mm at 500 meters) and increasing the effective range to 2000 meters would be to use the QJK-99 which is a 14.5mm MG but it would again have the same problem of the original 12.5mm Gun i.e. a lower RPM of 600.
A rotary 14.5mm option (LM16) does exist but would require extensive modifications to harden the 4x4 and would need to stabilise the chasis while firing, thereby defeating the main purpose.
As Sungur does not offer a hybrid unit, turks would need to develop CIWS on it from the scratch which will be cost prohibitive.

I have been following the russian ukraine war and the impact drones have had there... I think in the likely scenario of Pak vs India war and last year banyanul-marsoous operation where we had tons of drones, a hybrid SHORAD+CIWS would be effective and comparatively cheaper than the other options.

I have a feeling Gwadar might be targeted. It could be like how Azerbaijan was targeted. Drone attack then deny the attack.
Does Pakistan have enough SAM’s for both eastern and western borders?

J-35AE ;) ? lol ( that will trigger Deino .............. ).
a pair would really make my day!

one thing i know induction if happens will be as like jf17 induction 2+6+6+8+8 so by 2030 at least 2 sqns will be operational that in 3–4-year time - very realistic timeframe for new technology induction.

Bhai mera valeema hai is liye nhi kr rahay celebrate.
So we are back to not celebrating our national day ?
In the so called Dictator era General Zia , we celebrated Allama Iqbal day, Quaid e,Azam day , both birthday and anniversary.

Spring day as national Horses and cattle show, Yeme Qarardaad e Pakistan day 23 March , and 14th of August independence day, 6th September defence day , 7th September air force day
All on state level and mandatory for schools and colleges to hold functions, so that children can learn about these national events.

i wonder why u think like that

Because both India and Iran have been bleeding Pakistan. Their policies and actions have proved that they have shared strategic goals.

Indians use Afghani terrorists while Iranians use Hezbollah type militia/proxies in Pakistan. True, Iranian proxies have not gained such a strength as Hezbollah did in Lebanon, but Iranian proxies are acting as a state within the state of Pakistan.

What happened in Gilgit after Ali Khamenei was killed in a Zionist attack should be enough to open Pakistan's eyes. Moreover, all lies and deceptive propaganda of 'duffer Pakistani generals', 'general selling Pakistan for dollars', etc. are spread for years now by Irani proxies in Pakistan and abroad. These namak-haram cheaters are more faithful to their foreign masters than their motherland. Shameful.

For sure now some of the lessons we have learned is that quantity may need to take precedent over quality in terms of SAMS and drones now.

We need to start mass manufacturing these things on a large scale. Easier said then done, I know

Yes, new inductions to improve AD capabilities and overall ADGE - people at AHQ ain't just sleeping after May war.

I just hope we don't get dragged into the ongoing conflict. Otherwise you'll see good show on 14th August Insha Allah.
What about offensive weapons sir?? Pakistan SAM choices haven't exactly been flawless....

@hasssanali8998 they are cheaper then CIWs systems, easier to produce and more mobile since they can mounted on the back of a pickup truck, as for CMs that's a big maybe.

Is it worth developing our own APKWS type weapon for low cost drone hunting? They have proven to be quite effective at drone hunting in Ukraine and the Gulf, mounted on the back of a hilux

I posted about the Vampire counter drone system by L3Harris before and indeed as you said, this will be quite beneficial and cost effective solution to target cheap drones and even cruise missiles. Taiwan just recently developed its counter drone system called Aegis, to protect critical military and civilian assets. I don't think it will be difficult for Pakistan to slap some 70mm Hydra rocket pods with a EO/IR camera on a Toyota Hilux. Those Hydra pods can fire APKWS type laser guided rockets and you have quite a neat package. In Aegis instance below, have 6 Hydra pods carrying 42 APKWS is a good magazine.
