Pakistan-Saudi Arabia mutual defense pact: News & Discussion

The land border with KSA can serve an expensive alternate though.

Saudia is conserving/rationing their own food, medicine and perishable items Majority of medicine supplies in Qatar were coming from Jordan, India, Europe and America. That supply line gonna suffer too.

This is a really fair and balanced post. Actually a really mature assessment of affairs. My prime concern atm is our critical fuel shortage as I have explained before we have maybe a week's LPG left and about 2 weeks petrol/diesel before shit starts getting spicy.
Grazi.

There are three key interventions Pakistan can make. It wont solve everything, but it will soften the blow.

1) Leverage its solar revolution. Chinese estimates of Pakistans imported solar capacity is 50 Gw in some studies. Get people to hook up non storage capacity and link it to the national grid. Curremt estimates of existing linked solar units is 20% of national requirement by some estimates.

2) Coal. Augment the supply chains, especially from china. Our existing coal powered plants are woefully undercapacity ( 10 percent for some like jamshoro) . The thar supply chain is missing a 100 km rail link due for completion in june - fasttrack it. People at home with the luxury of solar power should purchase electric hotplates so food provision isnt threatened by LPG disruption. Yes foreign lpg goes to industry but eventually its shortage will impact homes). Ultimately we might be seeing coal and wood for home cooking if this draws on.

3) Transport will be the worst hit eventually. Electric buses priority powered by hydroelectric energy may allow some critical public transport but this will be ugly. May have to ration for EMS. Air travel will be far uglier. Tanga stands may come back in fashion who knows.

To be honest these are the situation where these pacts matter. Lets see which allies really pull through for us in this. Bit of a litmus test as all four spiritual allies are in a position to help.

O bhaiyo.. can anyone give a nice summary of the defense pact we have signed with KSA? Has anyone read the agreement? Where can I access that?

As I work in the government healthcare, I know that there would be an impact on the availability of medications, not just in the gulf, but across the world.

I dont think that has ever been considered some holy family by anyone but there is a long standing relationship that has aspects beyond the public eyes and those go beyond just Houbara Bustards into being available as an ATM in certain crises or even pushing lobbies in the US and EU for certain clearances on equipment.

Not a constant but the historical precedent is there.

Sure...holy family might be a stretch, but the house of Saud isn't a God appointed family to safeguard Harmain Sharif, and anyone attacking Saudis and their defence shouldn't be framed through a religious lens at all, especially in the current context. This is a dangerous road. Once you go a bit deeper into the historical context with the Kingdom of Hejaz and everything, you'd realize those people have more in common with Yemenis than the Sauds.

You made a defence pact for geopolitical reasons, sure, admit it. You pointed towards apt reasons (mainly ATM), but the messaging needs to be a bit smarter here. There is no danger to Makkah or Madina, it's a nation state fight. Stop creating another religious cause to rally behind, we know how the last one turned out.

..., will KSA help Pakistan (militarily, financially and morally) in its highly likely future war with India as per this agreement? If yes, we should fully support KSA. ...
Yes, obviously.

Ask darpoke India to unpause the ceasefire, or ask Iran to declare war on Saudi Arabia, and see what happens.

By the way, can anyone upload the draft of this agreement?
You can ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for classified documentation:

I think they're likely to decline, so, here's the official joint press release for less important people like me and you, that we can read.

There is no unclassified version of the official text. The salient points are discussed in Pakistani publications are listed as below:
  • Collective Defence Clause: The central pillar of the pact states that "any aggression against either country shall be considered an aggression against both". This is widely compared to NATO’s Article 5, committing both nations to a collective response to external threats.
  • Joint Deterrence: The agreement aims to develop and strengthen "joint deterrence against any aggression" to enhance regional and global peace.
  • Permanent Coordination Mechanisms: The pact establishes formalized structures for ongoing cooperation, including:
    • A Joint Military Committee.
    • Intelligence-sharing arrangements.
    • Expanded military training and joint exercises.
  • Comprehensive Military Support: A Saudi official described it as a "comprehensive defensive agreement that encompasses all military means".

I am still amazed at the timing of the pact.

There was no pact required. Everyone knows that Pakistan will stand with the KSA in times of extreme need. What makes it very strange is that right before the war, we entered into this agreement.

Can anyone believe that one party was not aware of the incoming war in the region?

practically nothing is easy in this world not even eating a subway burger :P
Comparing a sub sandwich to the current global political crisis is kinda immature. But sure, okay I guess.

A lot of people are laughing right now, just let it get a little tighter, the noose is almost at the sweet spot...

It consist of Ishaq Dar wandering around trying his best to convince Saudis not to fire back and not activate the defence pact with Pakistan.

You don't want to escalate with Iran right now. Let Israel-USA deal with it and hope its over soon either way.

Are you fresh of the boat Pakistani still exploring USA and getting awestruck by her idiosyncrasies?
I mean it depends on what Fresh means!!! in Pakistan 10 din purani Sabzi bhi Fresh hoti hai hahaha but I am in USA for 6 years.

In fact , this is individual decision of Muneera , no one knows the term and conditions. It never came in Form 47 parliament, like Gen Reheel Shareef who brought the Yemen issue in parliament.
But seems, Israel and US ordered him to protect Saudi, before they start Iran war.
It was all planned and Gen Muneera was part of this plan and sold out traitor General. But yesterday act was massive damage by insulting one sect.
