We need to talk more about this development. I'm convinced most people don't understand what this means for the region.
1. The United States has effectively withdrawn from its 'allies' and military installations in Syria.
2. The majority of US military bases in Iraq were vacated before the onset of the war, and those that remained have since been destroyed.
3. The military bases in Turkey are under NATO's jurisdiction and are not included in this logistical and strategic realignment.
4. The remaining US bases are located in the Arab nations along the Persian Gulf.
-> The Israeli government is essentially insisting that the United States close these military facilities and transfer operations to Israel. Tel Aviv is poised to comply with a primary demand from Iran, which is the withdrawal of all US military presence from the Gulf region.
Consequently, the Arab nations will be left to fend for themselves, as the US has retreated to Israel, Iran remains present and increasingly agitated, and the Arab Monarchies have accomplished little while facing criticism from all sides.
No wonder the Arab regimes are pushing the US to put boots on the ground. This is their last chance to dominate the region. If this invasion fails, their entire foundation and existence will be open to debate.
