Pns Nasr is over 40 years old now and it was a first generation support vessel for the PLAN I suspect she will need to be replaced soon, I think PN should go for something like this Karel doorman class hybrid support ship

Replenishment tanker

Hospital ship (20 beds and 2 operating rooms

Light LHD (can carry 6 medium helicopters)

Amphibious assault ship with the capacity to carry 250-300 troops and armoured vehicles

All in one and PN already has a existing partnership with Damen which it can leverage.
I thought pns moawin was primary makeshift LHD platform PN uses. And iirc they have a requirement for another moawin. But isn't bigger problem lack of helos

The problem isn't lack of helicopters it's specifically ship borne helicopters, Sea kings for example are too big for the hangars on most PN vessels so it only leaves 6 Z-9ECs to be carried by ships.

Even the PNS maowin can only carry one sea king and one Z-9EC so it isn't really a LHD even a makeshift one, by comparison the Karel doorman can carry 6 NH-90s which is similar in size to the sea king

Doesnt pns alamgir have the biggest hangar. Can it fit a sea king?

Its impossible for Pakistan, specially Navy to have funds to afford heavy ships, we already have contracts for Milgem aka Babur class, and after that we have Jinnah class Frigates coming up. So most of Navy's budget for next 4-5 years will be going towards payments for these systems.

Babur's Class Frigate
Jinnah Class Frigate
Hangoor Class Subs
Sea-Sultan
SWAT subs

Should save some bucks for the Pakistan-tailored nuclear sub like the Type 041.

I really do think PN should go for a AW 139 based ASW platform, its compact enough to fit on current and future PN vessels and has already been in service in other branches for close to a decade now,

PN can utilize the many of the same contractors from the Sea Sultan program, the initial requirement would be for 12 helicopters total cost would be $500 Million based on my estimate of $40-42 million per helicopter not cheap but IMO well worth it in the long run

OHPs have Two separate hangers that were designed to carry 2 Sea Hawks but those are considerably smaller then the sea kings so I don't think they can
Cant it be modified to 1 larger hangar

Is cosmos class replacement planned? I was thinking it might be worth it to get some more sub 300 ton relatively cheap midget subs for not just covert ops but also sinking indian coastal shipping and mine laying. Cosmos can do some of that but they are getting old and ideally you'd need a lot of these crafts for IN to spend more time chasing allowing s800s and hangors to roam more freely. S800 seems to be too big and expensive for this particular role

They already have been replaced by some new midget sub couple of years ago. It was right there to see on satellite imagery but one day, vanished

PN tried to cover it with a blue tarp too before moving it out of sight

Rare PNS Almangir appearance

  • ISPR says exercise was designed to enhance interoperability and maritime cooperation

April 1, 2026

The Pakistan Navy and the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLA(N)) concluded their joint naval exercise, SEA Guardian IV, which took place from 25 March to 1 April 2026, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the exercise, held in Karachi and the North Arabian Sea, was designed to enhance the interoperability and maritime cooperation between the two naval forces.

The first phase of the exercise took place in the port city of Karachi, where PLA Navy Ship DAQING was welcomed by Pakistan’s PNS TAIMUR.

During the five-day port visit, the navies engaged in various activities including exchange visits, orientations at naval installations, and professional discussions focusing on maritime security challenges, the ISPR said.

One of the key highlights of the port visit was a maiden Young Officers Seminar, which served as a platform for young officers from both navies to share insights and experiences.

The second phase of the exercise, held in the North Arabian Sea, focused on operational training and live exercises.

Among the key drills were air defence exercises targeting multi-domain swarm threats, coordination with a Pakistan Navy submarine, conventional war-at-sea operations, and live gunnery firing.

These activities were aimed at strengthening operational coordination and tactical responses between the two forces.

The exercise concluded with a coordinated patrol in the Arabian Sea, emphasizing the commitment of both the Pakistan Navy and the PLA Navy to regional maritime security and stability. The successful completion of SEA Guardian IV underscores the growing cooperation between the two nations’ naval forces and their shared goals of maintaining peace and security in the region’s waters.
