European Defence News and Discussions

I'll believe it when I see it. Or Europe will just wait till Trump's term ends and take their chances with the next POTUS.

I am hearing that US only wants to leave NATO so they can help Israel destroy Turkey.

Also I dont think Europe is currently capable of actually projecting power or materials without the US. Doesn't Germany only have like 10 functioning tanks?

One of many reasons, etc.

Also I dont think Europe is currently capable of actually projecting power or materials without the US.

Europe has no desire to "project power". All they want to do is keep the Russian bear at bay, and they can do that. It is the Americans who want to "project power".

Doesn't Germany only have like 10 functioning tanks?

This is silly.. truly.

Thank god lol, but I doubt, though, as it's not so easy to stop free loading.

The following diagram is a good illustration of why Europe overall, does not need the USA to protect itself from Russia. As always, the Russian threat is overblown.
This is a typical war of words between Western politicians.

Europe cannot do without NATO—an alliance dominated by the United States. Nor can the United States do without NATO.

Theirs is a symbiotic relationship. Once separated, they will all die!

Good luck to Europe.

Europe has great technology and money to protect itself
even only Germany , France , The UK and Turkiye would be enough against Russia

USA doing nothing except blocking Germany-Turkiye to get nuclear weapons

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Europe-Turkiye dont have any problem with China-N.Korea
Europe-China will not fight each others

Better to say good luck to USA against China+Russia+N.Korea

Either fight alone against China, Russia, and North Korea, or side with Israel against China , silly TRUMP

TRUMP is begging for helping from NATO even against Iran

As always, the Russian threat is overblown.

We are in the beginning moves of WWIII. The conscription changes in the USA where the conscription age has been increased, and also changes in Europe shows the unfortunate trend...

it's been reworded

For several days, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius struggled to explain himself. A provision in the new Military Service Act, which took effect on January 1, appeared to require men between the ages of 17 and 45 to notify the German military, or Bundeswehr, before taking trips abroad longer than three months.

Though it took months for this provision to come to light, the uproar was huge: Why does the Bundeswehr want men to request permission to leave the country if military service in Germany is voluntary?

Pistorius this week clarified the situation. "Everyone is allowed to travel, whether they are 17, 45, or anywhere in between, and permission is not currently required," he told the German press agency dpa. The Social Democrat added that an administrative regulation would be issued this week to remove any doubt.

Wed, 15 Apr 2026

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Wednesday, during a visit to Beijing, that Russia is ready to compensate for the energy resource shortages faced by China and other countries due to the aggression against Iran.

According to Russian media, Lavrov said during a press conference in Beijing, "Russia can, without a doubt, compensate for the resource shortages for China and other countries interested in working with us."

He also confirmed that President Vladimir Putin will visit China in the first half of 2026. Chinese President Xi Jinping received Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday, who began a two-day visit to China on Tuesday.

Lavrov emphasized that relations between Russia and China "remain steadfast in the face of all storms," noting that the relationship between Putin and Xi contributes to "their countries' ability to withstand the shocks that have shaken the world."

China helped Russia survive the harsh western sanctions. Now it's Russia's turn to return the favor.

A reporter asked: Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov has just concluded his visit to China. According to reports, he stated that Russia will help China make up for the energy shortage caused by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Can the spokesperson comment on this? Guo Jiakun stated that regarding the issue of the Strait of Hormuz, China has already clarified its position multiple times. China and Russia have always conducted practical cooperation in various fields, including energy, on the basis of mutual respect and mutually beneficial results. (Beijing Youth Daily)
