Pakistan Navy Tests Taimoor Cruise Missile

I think youre right but navy is imo rightly worrying about penetration aspect before volume. I think the understanding is that navy is looking at another short but hot war where IN tries some hit and run strike and tries to get away from a distance before they can be picked apart. Whereas SMASH and cm-400AKG are more shorter range but high probability of penetration weapons that can penetrate the fleet screen and soften them up or do something thats a PR victory like hitting an IN carrier without sinking it if babus want non escalation. Taimoor exists as a long range detterent that turns entire indian ocean into a warzone.

Something like cm-400 still requires a jf-17 and airforce willing to spare them but taimoor can be launched from something less needed like mirage and soon navys fully own sea sultan. A sea sultan can go anywhere in the Arabian sea and lob a couple cruise missiles and any unsuspecting warship in WIOR is at danger.

A quicksink like weapon whilst obviously extremely useful cant exactly be used the same way. I dont think we have any rocket powered REKs, let alone one with iir or laser guidance. I think you are also completely misunderstanding the role of these weapons as AShMs are supposed to penetrate AD whilst quick sink is supposed to be a volume effective weapon used to sink mostly auxiliaries
We do have PREKs

We have rocked powered REK. Optional with seeker..

this is good and bad news.

obviously this is set to be for the sea sultans, which was expected, otoh, it means rasoob maybe isnt as close as we'd want.

on the bright side, production is scaling up. obviously this was launched by the PAF
Different missile payload and roles. For anti ship missiles need big payload.

300nm+ with 500lb warhead, or if used as a decoy with an additonal fuel tank, 700nm+
Impressive if true but I don't think our REKS are quite that long ranged, and you would still need the fighter platform to be within range of potential targets. I think a mix of REK type weapons, aero ballistic missiles like CM400, and Taimoor would work, but in my view the issue is having the appropriate launch platform. Ideally we'd want a long ranged fighter bomber but that seems unlikely. I've always been a proponent of the PN having it's own dedicated air arm, comprising say a couple of squadrons of fighters with their own aerial refuelling and AWACS support.

@Ak01 do yk where taimoor would be mounted on sea sultan? Between engine nacelles?

internal rotary weapons bay was the original plan, i dont know if it ended up happening but that was the desire and thats what was contracted

Idk if taimoor would fit in there anyway 🤔

Great news!
NOW let's see a ship fired variant.

i think it was fired from ATR72. it can also be fired from JF17A/B/C and Mirage 3 ROSE 1. with 600KM full range a good arsenal for A2/AD. With Harba [750KM], Zarb [450KM], CM400AKG [240KM], Taimur [600KM], SMASH [450KM], C802 [180KM], C602 [290KM], Harpoon [120KM] , Exocet [70KM] missile, PN has some anti ship arsenal that can take care of surface ships 100s of miles away from the coast

Ditching the tercom in the iir variants?? wouldn't that make these quite vulnerable ?
Tbh Navy is doing quite good progress and is using the funds it gets , now i think we should see a test by the Jf17s too (publicly)
My assessment would be ditch tercom for the antiship variants because there's essentially no terrain over the sea. I'd keep it on all Taimurs that I have to fly over the ground. tercom is an insurance policy against gps jamming which is given these days.

anybody noticed the target? with EW antenna? (those triangle shape) i guess they were testing it with real world scenario.
