Pakistan Air Force | News & Discussions

It's an expensive luxury but if we can keep 50 year old Mirages flying I don't see why we couldn't have a flyable heritage fleet, heck there's flyable Sabres owned by private individuals in the US. I've always loved seeing the RAF's heritage fleet, especially the Vulcan bomber...nothing describes seeing that thing fly in person.

It's true, just need a small batch of engineers and pilots to do this part time, maybe we could buy a Sabre off a US private owner and put it in PAF colours (No 15 Sqd would be nice!).

The site of a single one of those over 'Pindi or Lahore, my God it would make the hairs on the back of my neck freeze and many an old man shed a tear......

even if it would be pricey, imo cherrypicking a handful of nice airframes to keep around would also be valuable, toss them into the public markets and theyd sell for tons. Particularly the older british stuff we had back early after partition

Dude, the stuff I would do to see F-104s and Sabres flying above parades or above Quaid's Mausoleum

At least one Sabre being kept in flying condition would not have been very expensive for PAF. Consider the amount of unpaid ex-PAF volunteers and spare parts we could easily gather for that.

Especially if they could have preserved Alam's main F-86 that had the kill markings on it. Unfortunately they'd rather spend their spare cash on gawdy things like 'Cafe Swift Resort' and shaadi halls.

PAF walay Army jitnay paindu nahi hay, but my god they can be terrible sometimes. It's like watching monkeys do a poor imitation of the WW2 Royal Air Force.

they haven't preserved that airframe in a museum ??
like wtf man

I have heard conflicting reports of whether or not PAF still has the real F-86 54-026 which was pictured with the kill markings. I know they've painted those markings onto multiple Sabres but not sure if its original.

Maybe it crashed?

What was the context of that video? Looks like he was speaking at some ceremony, but CNS was chief guest at PAF Academy this year.

It is interesting he mentions new additions will not just benefit PAF but Pak Forces in general, leads me to think he is not just talking about new fighter jets....
new projects could be new "platforms" that will become visible sooner or later, or it could mean new "capabilities", that would not become visible and should not be discussed on public forums.

PAF does not have THAT love for flying and aviation. Most of their retirees are done with flying other than the few who end up in commercial.

I know of only one (ex-PAF) who flies fighters post active duty retirement and also is a general aviation instructor pilot at the same time.

The country doesn't have the culture for it...or not yet....

@side-winder Looks like the work that should have been done before the May war is being done now...im really pissed regarding the loss of the two Mobile command stations...they were precured not long ago man , all it would have took was the PAF to build a concrete building to say hide them from the enemies eye...I hope the guy their are now at a more alert state.

Yeah, a lot of truth in this post, but think single Sabre painted up as 54-026 would have been amazing for parades, morale and also recruitment purposes. PAF could have put some full time resource here. Pretty sure there are officers fidgeting around Ministry of Defence, PAF Air War College or NDU with spare time on their hands. If we can maintain Sherdils demo team using instructors from Risalpur, how hard would it be to service 1-2 Sabres?

With the current culture....pretty hard. And over there....recruitment is done through parades, songs and TV show presentations. Seldom do airshows inspire people towards flying. Most Pakistanis like aircraft and air force, very few get to like flying.

I don't think that's true at all. We wouldn't be able to produce some of the best pilots like Alam or the current guys who've done an incredible job against the IAF if it wasn't for their passion for flying. Listen to air commodore Tufail and his passion for flying. It's not for lack of want but lack of opportunity I guess that most aren't able to fly in some form or another. Given the chance, I'm sure most of them would love to get back into the seat of a historical aircraft.

Update: I got news for some sources that Pakistan started work on JF-17 Block 4 probably stealth version with new powerful engine but I am confused, Pakistan is getting J-35 and Kaan also and now JF-17 with stealth design and new egnine.

What is going on?
