Why would US need to wait for a 3rd carrier group to commence operations? Makes no sense. They can achieve everything necessary with the assets already there. Of course a 3rd will help, but they could happily start today and let the 3rd arrive in due course to support.

Well the US has surmised that Iran will never launch a first strike and will accept any ceasefires offered. As long as that remains true they have total control over the flow of the conflict. The blockade has been quite brilliant, I doubt it was Trump's idea. Trump can't just keep unilaterally extending the ceasefire while maintaining the blockade. There really isn't a military reason to resume the conflict from their prespective.
