PN Inducts Leonardo Tecnam P2012 Aircrafts

My main concern is if it has something niche that breaks and we cant replace it and have to contact leonardo for parts rather than finding those parts on open market

Yeah, good point, my guess there may have been other factors at play here, possibly keeping Leonardo and Italy sweet.

not leonardo, tecnam. Its not the same.

I actually did my multi engine training in its little brother, the p2006t. Its a pig

Tecnam has been bought by Leonardo who is also the Contract signatory for this deal. After sales service and support will be provided by Leonardo
thats not true, since when?

Tecnam is still owned by the Pascale's.

Seats are removable, so it can also be used as a cargo carrier to various remote PN bases as well both in peace and wartime. This will reduce PN dependency on PAF C130's for the same purpose

I dont think this will have any effect on PN's dependency on Hercs.

  • Empty weight: 2,386 kg (5,260 lb) ; 2,416 kg (5,326 lb) on STOL variant
  • Max takeoff weight: 3,680 kg (8,113 lb)
  • Fuel capacity: 880 L (230 US gal) usable fuel
This gives you a usable load of about, 1300kg, so thats 1300kg for fuel and pax/cargo.

Lets assume a 3h profile, including reserves, thats about 379kg, plus a standard mass for pilot, call it 460kg, off our useful load that comes.

gives you 800 ish kg payload capacity...BUT!

This is Pakistan, at low density altitudes, you cant/wont want to run at MTOW, you will climb like a pig and cook the cylinders... Its a terrible idea and theres a reason why most STOL aircraft go for turbines. After everything, you're probably not going to want to carry anything more than 650-700kg of load. Was the PN really using valuable life on. herc for 700kg of load?

Also, you're actually limited by another thing too...

Avgas availability in Pakistan. Now idk how great it is, but im sure not all fields will have access, so if we start looking into tankering, we lose even more load.

Back in the day everyone was using Hercs for even light loads. PN now has options, it has the ATR fleet (non MPA) so calling on Hercs (in theory) should be minimal. Now with Gwadar and Jiwani hosting signficant PN assets I also assume we will need light communications aircraft to ferry men and light equipment from Karachi
Why they keep PN War College in Lahore has always puzzled me

terrible aircraft for this too, it would turn a 1h45 trip into 3h30-4h trip, factoring fuel and stuff, youre only able to carry 6 people onboard. Its a terrible buy and a terrible little aircraft, its better suited for intra europe air taxi etc, not...this

A used king air would have actually been the perfect choice!

Again, this may have been a compromise to keep italy happy

very unlikely, this is a chump change deal and tecnam is a small time civillian aircraft manufacturer, it has nothing to do with leonardo etc either, it just seems like someones pockets got lined.

DP Navy has signed the contract with Leonardo (not Tecnam) for these aircrafts. Maybe you are correct and perhaps this deal only is limited to provision of these aircrafts to PN through Leonardo with a possible future platforms upgrade to ISR

Chump change or not, Italians are making aggressive efforts in marketing arms to Pakistan. They have seen a niche here.
