TBH, I didn't believe I would live to these days to witness Viet Nam having a robust defence industries like this. As I have said, the day of us buying weapons are all over, even potential fighter jet deal with Russia is being put on hold indefinitely due to a potential fixed wing jet under development at the moment.

Would you mirror China's development by spending 20 years to digest all technology of the 4th gen aircrafts like the Su-27/30?

China has inducted the Su-27 in the early 1990s, and it took China roughly 20 years in the early 2010s to fully master the engine/avionics/sensors/weaponry by building a fully indigenous J-11B.

I would say anything that involves electronics like AESA radar,IRST,E/O,jammer,avionics would be our strong point. Once we put into operation our 32 nm wafer fab in 2028, we can localize even more of our electronics stuff. Our weakest point has to be the engine. I mean we have done turbo jet and turbofan for our cruise missiles but fighter jet engine is a different animal that not many countries can conquer. To sum it up, i believe Viet Nam can do something like a Flanker within 20 years or even sooner but not a complete 100% localization due to the engine hurdle.

You don't need to be too obsessed with those 5th/6th gen aircrafts.

For 6th gen, except China, even the US is struggling.

For 5th gen, it is US/China, and with Russia being weakest one to struggle to mass produce it.

Most countries cannot even fully build a 100% indigenous 4th gen aircraft.

If Vietnam can fully resolve its indigenous Su-27/30 like China has done 15 years ago, your country is making its entry level to pave the road to build the future 4.5 gen and 5th gen.

I will be happy if we can start with MIG21. Other than that it’s unrealistic. Making aircraft, turbojet, turbofan engines belongs to the most difficult things ever.
A learning curve starts at 0, and not somewhere else.

Most countries won't even try to build turbofan engine from scratch, because it is too time consuming as its complexity is at insanity level.

It is a pity that some superpower nation might be moving toward 6th gen even 7th gen in the not too distant future, while most nations in the world can't still build 3rd/4th gen aircraft fully indigenously from scratch.

Vietnam can make turbo engines for cruise missiles, making engines for aircraft is another level. Very difficult, very expensive. Only few countries can make it. America, Europe and there are China, Japan, Korea.

No need to reinvent the wheel. Waste of time.
99 percent people copy from other. And from there people make improvements.
About 6th gen aircraft, it’s like the jump from internet protocol IPv4 and IPv6. Yes, nice to have, but not necessary.
Future wars will be drones, robots, AI, autonomous systems.

Sanae Takaichi "kneels" to offer flowers in Australia; Chinese state media criticizes this as a double humiliation: why she doesn't come to Nanjing to kneel or kneel in Vietnam that she recently visited. Disgusting ! White lickers.

China has to sustain its own ecosystem to fight against the ecosystem that controlled by the US via its vassal states known as allies.

Russia can no longer sustain its modern ecosystem in the 21st century.

For other nations, it is not necessary.

That's why Vietnam has more chance to buy its 5th gen aircraft than building its indigenous 4th gen aircraft.

I highly suspect it gonna be the Su-57, but Russia seems to continue by struggling to mass produce it.

People will never change their minds, if they don’t want to. You can’t change that.
Vietnam by the way never asks formal apology and compensation from Japan for the sufferings during occupation.
If the Japanese do then ok, if they don’t do then ok, too.
Traditionally do apologize for mistakes applies to Vietnamese only, not foreigners.

We will see.

Of course it’s nice if we can buy advanced fighter aircraft and submarines. More interesting if we can buy technology.
I think Putin is willing to sell it to Vietnam, the problem is he can’t. Russia’s economy, military totally relies on China. If Xi Jinping lowers the thumb, Putin’s empire will collapse in a matter of months.

Ccp should be more relaxed though.
To Lam currently on a visit to India
He will reassure Modi, Vietnam is committed to neutrality. We will not take part in any military operation.

You can get subs from Germany and aircrafts from France or Sweden if you don't want to get them from Russia or US, but not Japan otherwise China would be upset.

India joins Vietnam’s fast payment system.
