JF-17 - Updates, News & Discussion

what are the main differences? is it not structurally identical? i know the radars etc are very mildly different and probably could just be brought up to similar standards with backend changes etc
I believe there were widespread reports of wing root strengthening. This sounds like an adhoc fix that was not adhoc in subsequent blocks. However, all of this is heresay. I might be totally wrong but that's what I think.

I also suspect chanelling new components might be a challenge.

Dont blk 2s use composites in more places and are lighter airframes as a result?
both block 1 and block 2 has minimal amount of composite in their construction(less than 10%) its a block 3 which uses significant amount of composites (35% of airframe by an aera)

I really doubt its 50th blk 3 in paf. There was something like 23 inducted by late 2023, maybe 30 if we push it to early 2024 Azeris placed initial orders for 16 jf-17s in early 2024 and almost immidietely PAC began work on those. By late 2025 we know 9+ had been delivered to them and another 24 had been ordered, assuming work on that second batch had not yet begun then between early 2024 and early 2026 PAC produced 30+ or likely upto 36 aircraft if they had a specifIc timeline with Azerbaijan.

This would be roughly 18 aircraft per year, a large scale increase in production from 21,22,23 that we had somehow both not noticed and had to start before may wakeup call and increased funding. This though Entirely possible is not very likely imo.

We already knew that Pakistan have the capability to produce 25 per year. But actual production never went to 25 annually because of slow and low order rate.

Also, now that we are done with initial order of 50 JF17B3 for PAF. And members here saying Block 1 were never supposed to be upgraded fully to block 2 (allegedly). This would mean the block 1 are less capable and we need 30-50 more block 3.

PAC was being drip fed orders and was not running anywhere near capacity, the Azeri order and further PAF orders allowed production to Finally ramp up

@Ak01 what do you think is next , since we have met the orignal order of 50 blk 3s

are we going to order more or upgrade and then buy
still gotta replace mirages and f-7s, and soon, old block 1's!

OTOH, i first said this 5-6y ago, i see block 3 as another sidestep upgrade like the block 2, nothing groundbreaking. I think the block 4 will be a final iteration and the most capable variant, with more local kit than before. Probably see them replace block 1s and then be used as the basis for block 2 MLU.
