Srinagar to Leh all-weather connectivity! Zojila Tunnel Project surpasses 50 per cent completion

This is an important milestone for India's ambitious 2.5 front wars of expansion in the coming years. The engineering marvel of militaristic necessity is a testimony of economic will of the Indian war machine.

I presume in case of another Kargil type incursion the Indian Army can get their supplies in winter via the tunnel.

Is my understanding correct ?
Tunnels entrances and exits can easily be blocked by bombing.

Tunnels entrances and exits can easily be blocked by bombing.
Easy? First you have to find the exact entrance, identify which portal is actually in use, maintain continuous surveillance over it in one of the most rugged mountain regions on Earth, penetrate air defences, hit a relatively small target accurately.

Himalayas are not flat desert terrain. Mountains create blind spots, weather disruptions, cloud cover, snow, shadows and countless valleys that complicate surveillance and targeting. Even if you know where a tunnel is, knowing exactly when traffic is moving through it and assessing damage after a strike is a different challenge altogether.

More importantly, a tunnel entrance is a tiny target. An exposed mountain road is a target stretching for 10s or 100s of kms. To shut down a road network, you can hit dozens of vulnerable points. To shut down a tunnel, you must repeatedly strike the same hardened portal and keep it blocked despite repair efforts.

That's exactly why countries facing serious military threats invest heavily in tunnels. China is building extensive tunnel networks despite having one of the world's largest missile forces. Iran has spent decades constructing underground military facilities.

If bombing tunnel entrances were the simple solution PDF experts claim, China and Iran would have stopped digging years ago.

Love your post Neptune
This is serious engineering and important military and connectivity achievements
Modi India is doing the same with under water tunnel entrances to nuclear submarine bases

Today they house 4 nuclear powered submarines
But in decades time it will 8 submarines and I'll n 2047 as many as 16 nuclear powered submarines
The tunnels are vital both in himlayers and on our coast lines

16 nuclear submarines with heavies like S5s SSBNs and homemade SSNs.... yes the tunnels play vital role in the protection and movement of strategic assets....
