There is traffic disruption in Dublin city centre as protesters march on the Dáil bearing tricolour flags

As usual, the original problem with foreign immigration in Belfast lies at the feet of Whitehall officials in London, who for a decade or so saw fit to send excess numbers into Belfast under some flawed logic or another.
According to Police Service NI, what is happening in reaction to that is still mostly a loyalist led violent movement against migrants (precisely because those same loyalists have been locked into tacit alliance with mainland British right wing groups for many decades now), although it is certainly true that ALL Northern Irish are broadly aligned on their general concerns about immigration. Certain Republicans (e.g. IRSP) also fiercely rival Sinn Fein and take a more hard-line position against migrants to accentuate this political split.
But at the same time, it is important to note that those hard-line Republicans are also far more aggressive in posture towards Loyalists.
There is virtually no chance therefore that Republicans and Loyalists will magically unite and jointly declare full scale street war against migrants. Republicans would not allow violent Loyalists to empower themselves, amass strength and exert control over neighbourhoods, because those same Republicans would be next on the chopping block after the immigrants have fled.
I would say this much though as a theoretical scenario...Even now, decades after the Good Friday agreement, petrol bombs, firearm usage and disappearings remain genuine threats in parts of Belfast. If theoretically it did ever indeed kick off in Northern Ireland, the migrant communities will have no chance whatsoever to resist against such organised violence.
Of course, none of this even takes into account what the British military would undoubtedly do if ANY paramilitaries gained violent control of Belfast neighbourhoods.
