London murder rates fall beneath major western cities around the world

There were 97 homicides in the capital in 2025, down 36 per cent from 153 in 2019 and 11 per cent fewer than the 109 in 2024.

The Met said last year also had the lowest killings since 95 took place 11 years ago in 2014.

The force stated that 2025 saw a homicide rate of 1.1 per 100,000 people - safer than comparable global cities such as New York at 2.8, Paris (1.6), Toronto (1.6), Berlin (3.2), Los Angeles (5.6), Chicago (11.7), and Philadelphia (12.3).
In 2025, stop and search helped officers seize at least 3,800 weapons and discover illegal drugs on more than 27,800 occasions.

Historically, higher rates of stop and search have been linked to lower detection rates.

But the 20% increase in use of the tactic over the last year culminated in 36% of searches in July 2026 uncovering evidence of criminal activity.

A statement from Scotland Yard claimed this was as a result of “officers making more precise and considered stops”.

Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan, the Met’s stop and search lead, said: “Stop and search remains a vital tool in helping officers remove weapons from our streets, apprehend dangerous offenders and ultimately save lives.

“But it is also a tactic that must be used fairly, professionally and with the confidence of the communities we serve.”

London is a truly global city with no peer. The best overall. New York, does not come close once you get down to it a comparison. While New York and London may trade blows when it comes to business, culture, lifestyle, global connectivity, tourism, local amenities, size, public transport, art, history, efficiency and the food scene.... there is soo much history and "texture" in London that there is always somewhere to go, and something to do and to do it safely that it beats out New York every time.

These two blokes visited London, went on random walkabout in London and their commentary is excellent on what London is about.

They literally landed in the centre of london, chose random directions and found some much to see and experience day after day.

Sadiq Khan is doing an excellent job

White nationalists in the US will still try to claim London has fallen to Muslims and is a dangerous rape ridden sharia law zone ... which is hilariously out of touch with these statistics.

According to the far-right, London is a war zone.............. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Islamic controlled, shariah everywhere, London dungeons are currently being used to stone people to death. Square mile has daily beheadings. People are also hanged from the London eye.

Yes they are onto a winner with Gregs! :ROFLMAO:. Pret is not great. The rest is American so they won't be surprised.
As for Windsor it it lovely and one thing we have is real history. Oh the 'Slough' pronunciation and stopover is hilarious.
The two remind me of the American backpackers in 'An American werewolf in London';

They even went to parts of London I have yet to get around to doing!

London is fab, NY is good as well. Other western cities that come to that level I'd say Vienna, Madrid, Berlin and hate to say it but Paris as well.
But international I'd say Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Shanghai are better.

The other cities are good, but they excel in 2 or 3 of the categories i listed, London excels in all of the categories, that is why it is the best overall by far.

Madrid is beautiful!, I used to live there for many months. I found Berlin rather sterile ( i used to live there too for many months as well - Germany culture, is very - erm sterile, both socially and the work environment! ). The Turkish food scene in Germany was fantastic though, my default!

I did a project in Paris as well, and yes it is ok, but only in places etc.

I have not made it to Vienna yet, it is on my bucket list.

I really want to go to Beijing, Tokyo, and Shanghai though!

Yes but that's not a fair comparison is it? The populations are tiny and half of those cases the people have left to go elsewhere to find work.
Not in the big cities,Bucharest has the same population like in 1990,about 2.4 million in the metropolitan area, and the statistics are per capita, so it stacks up.

I'm very envious that you got to visit all of these cities. My only hope is that before I leave this Earth I can visit as many.

Yes Madrid is the best of the lot. Berlin I like for history but man the German people need to liven up, terribly dull.
Paris again it's a history thing for me, and the people are mixed. Our of Paris people are much nicer.
As for the Asian cities they are on another level, Europe can't compete.

So and met many American tourists during my travels to Asia, nice folks, got talking to many. Lots of Americans here in Europe as well.

I suppose so but they haven't through any major population changes or grown for that matter. London has such a rate even though decades of change.

I'm glad to hear that. Americans should be respectful of the particular City they visit. That's the way I would be for sure. One city off the top of my head that I really want to visit is Tokyo, Japan.

Would also like to visit Romania. But honestly, mainly because the most powerful being to ever walk this planet came from Romania.

Well tickle me pink, who'd thought that stopping and searching people who might be linked to criminal activity would see such a fall.
It's high time to drop political correctness. Now introduce metal detectors at major transport hubs.

Having close friends who work in the met they've also used high speed loitering drones, electric pursuit bikes and mass surveillance to break up many rings.

Good job met and Sadiq.
One rule can drop it to almost zero: if you committed a crime, you can run but you can't hide. And you will face court or encounter.
In Germany, police reaches your home earlier than you if you have done something in public.

When the far-right say such things it's because they are projecting. They see ethnic minorities in london becoming well-educated, doing well in professional jobs, doing well in business, being productive and making good money. Whereas the vast majority of the far-right are dumb, uneducated, come from broken families, not making much money and being very unproductive. They project and vent their anger, frustration and racism by saying that london has Shariah law, Muslims are kidnapping, stoning and beheading people etc.

OFF TOPIC: When racists say that london is becoming a "third world country" they don't mean it's physically becoming a third world country because the infrastructure has deteriorated to third world standards, they mean it's FULL of non-whites and the vast majority of non-whites originated from third world/developing nations. Funny how the far-right get triggered by the very presence of non-whites but non-whites who are doing well causes the far-right to experience severe pain.
