Turkish UAV/UCAV Projects

Well, first of all, its an 800 kg drone with a 200 kg warhead. This adds to cost. Its cost is atleast 2.5 times Shaheed drones for that reason. No target requires a 200 kg warhead and if one does, that is a target for missiles and fighter jets maybe. I would certainly not send a 150-200 km/hr speed drone to that target. Common sense.

Almost all of major militaries have found ways to tackle the slow moving shaheed type drones. Thanks to the interceptor drones. They cost less than even 5000. So sending a slow moving K2 drones while knowing that it would be easily brought down by a 3k-5k interceptor drone is madness.

You have to consider this. Some weapons makes sense and are practice. Some doesn't. People can disagree on functionality and suitability of a wepon system. These systems are not from GOD, they are not invincibile and free of issues. K2 is one such weapon IN MY OPINION. The war changed. Now with LMs you need speed.
Yet, we see shahed drones striking US radar installations, bases in the gulf. The force multiplier of K-2 is the inboard AI system which allows them to act as a swarm.

Also, don't be sure of the cost. Baykar have great serial production capabilities which developed by TB-2.

Let's send the cheaper and faster-to-produce kamikaze Drones like 1000 km SIVRISINEK and KUZGUN first ,, also 1000+ km MIZRAK

The jet-powered SUPER SIMSEK Drones in front of them will employ electronic jamming to reduce the effectiveness of Air Defense Radars

after the destroying enemy air defense systems, and then deliver a deep strike to enemy vulnerable areas with the K-2s .... and GAME OVER
We can do that, we can bomb with our stealth UAVs, we can bomb with our balistic missiles. We have many tools to get the job done.

However, i don't understand the point by attaching these platforms to a stealth UCAV and null it's stealth features. We have other non-stealth UCAVs to do this job.

It's like delivering a pizza with a ferrari.

SUPER SIMSEK has unique capabilities to compare with other long range kamikaze Drones like the K-2 , MIZRAK , KUZGUN , SIVRISINEK

-- We can use SUPER SIMSEK to mimic Fighter Jets forcing enemy SAM batteries to activate their Radars, fire and deplete their expensive missile stockpiles

-- We can use SUPER SIMSEK to employ electronic jamming to reduce the effectiveness of Air Defense Radars

We can use ANKA-3, AKSUNGUR or AKINCI to carry SUPER SIMSEK
We don't necessarily need to use the ANKA-3... if we want a fast attack, then we can use the jet-powered ANKA-3

I also have this fantasy of transforming ANKA-3 into a air refueling aircraft by scaling it up. As flying wings design is not so hard to scale. It would end our dependence on foreign suppliers.

Asked this to AI, it come up with the answer below.

Why is a flying wing potentially well suited for a tanker?

In a conventional tanker, the fuselage, wings and tail are separate structures. In a flying wing, much more of the aircraft becomes usable structural volume.

That could provide some major advantages for a tanker:

  • Very large internal volume
  • Fuel tanks can be distributed through the center body and wings
  • Potential structural-weight advantages
  • Large wing area makes carrying a high fuel load more practical
  • No conventional tail, potentially reducing drag
  • Good potential for efficient, long-endurance cruise
  • And most importantly, long endurance is exactly what you want from a tanker
But there is an important point:

Scaling ANKA-3 ≠ simply making ANKA-3 bigger

The basic scaling principle works reasonably well at the conceptual level. If you double the linear dimensions:

  • Wing area ≈
  • Internal volume ≈
  • Geometric mass scaling would also be roughly
So a 6.5-ton aircraft could theoretically move into something around the 50-ton class with a 2× linear scale.

Of course, real aircraft don't scale this cleanly. Structural loads, aeroelasticity, engines, landing gear, fuel fraction and aerodynamic optimization all become major factors.

Now the really interesting part: the tanker

Instead of thinking of it as a larger MQ-25, imagine something like:

ANKA-3 → 6.5 tons

Larger flying-wing derivative → 30–50 tons

15–25 tons of internal fuel

Unmanned tanker for KAAN, HÜRJET, KIZILELMA and ANKA-3

An unmanned tanker wouldn't need to carry a pilot or life-support systems. That could mean longer endurance, lower operating costs, and potentially the ability to accept more risk in contested environments.

And then there is the stealth tanker idea

This is probably the most interesting part.

A conventional tanker such as the KC-46 has a large radar signature and generally has to remain well behind the forward edge of the battlespace.

A low-observable flying-wing tanker, however, could potentially operate much closer to contested airspace and refuel fighters further forward.

Instead of:

"I need to refuel before entering the enemy's air-defense envelope."
it could become:

"The tanker is already operating with me closer to the battlespace."
For an aircraft like KAAN, this could potentially have a significant effect on effective combat radius and mission endurance.

The biggest engineering problem?

Aerial refueling.

A flying wing doesn't have the conventional tail section where you would normally place a boom. A boom system could be challenging, while wing-mounted hose-and-drogue pods might be a more natural solution, although the airflow around a flying wing would make this far from simple.

And I don't think you necessarily need to directly scale ANKA-3 itself. You could develop a family of larger flying-wing aircraft based on the same technology:

ANKA-3 → 6.5 t

KIZILELMA → ~9 t class

Large flying-wing tanker → 30–50 t

Strategic flying wing → 100+ t

They could potentially share technologies such as flight-control systems, low-observability techniques, composites, avionics, mission computers and autonomous systems.

So, while "just scale up ANKA-3" is obviously an oversimplification, I don't think the basic idea of a 30–50 ton-class unmanned flying-wing tanker is crazy at all.

Also We can use SUPER SIMSEK to hit enemy AWACS

The technical specifications of the SUPER SIMSEK specifically its turbojet engine, high speed and integration of an optical Camera make the interception of an AWACS or Transport Aircrfat a highly realistic military scenario

High Speed (Mach 0.85+) : Driven by a turbojet engine, the SUPER SIMSEK can travel at speeds approaching 1,000 km/h

TV Camera Terminal Guidance : The onboard TV camera / optical sensor provides the operator with real-time visual tracking

A very deadly weapon.

In theory yes, but in reality there is no Awacs ever downed by another aircraft in a war, in the history.
1-) They position themselves away from the contact line.
2-) They don't fly solo, they always have escorts or have friendly aircraft between themselves and enemy.
3-) Those friendlies would hunt even before it come close to awacs.

Send 20-30 SUPER SIMSEK Drones at the same time and see what happens

several variants can act as active electronic warfare jammers and radar decoys to make itself look like 20-30 of F-16s

The Greek - Israeli Fighter Jets will see SUPER SIMSEK drones as a huge squadron of F-16s approaching and panicking to fire all their missiles

too slow for AEW kill.
And the data link for TV/Optical seeker will be detected before the hit.

More a UCAV for air to ground or air to sea mission, isn't it?

We have other options .. Thanks to Turkish Defense Industry

ANKA-3 can carry 100 km EREN jet powered high speed kamikaze Drones in internal weapon bays to hit Greek EMB-145H AEW

Greek EMB-145H AEW can detect the stealth ANKA-3 from 40-60 km away while ANKA-3 can detect the EMB-145H AEW from 200+ km away

AKINCI UCAVs used EREN high speed munition as air to air Missile to shot down several Chinese-made CH-95 UCAVs in Sudan

if ANKA-3 fire 185+ km GOKBORA air to air Missiles then GAME OVER for the even RAFALE and F-16V
