The 12 new Su-30MKIs ordered by the Indian Air Force (contract signed in December 2024 with HAL) are built to the full “Super Sukhoi” standard.

There is NO evidence of this. The "Super Sukhoi" is still in development, with the AESA radar (Virupaksha AESA Radar) still in design/prototyping phase.

India is unlikely to rely entirely on large fighter formations in a future conflict. It can lean heavily on stand-off weapons instead. The roughly 40 Su-30MKIs modified to carry BrahMos can provide a substantial long-range strike capability, while Jaguars can employ Storm Shadow and Rafales can employ SCALP.

Once Tejas enters the picture in larger numbers, this becomes even easier because it can integrate a broad range of Indian cruise missiles, glide bombs and laser-guided weapons. Until then, the existing 40 modified Su-30MKI fleet should be sufficient for a significant portion of the stand-off strike role—even with around 50% availability, that would still leave roughly 20 aircraft available.

Upgrading the entire Su-30MKI fleet for BrahMos may not be economically practical, given the nearing retirement of the aircraft and the increasing induction of Tejas. The focus will be on getting the most capability from the platforms already modified while transitioning toward newer platforms.

For Super Sukhoi, modified existing Su-30MKIs will handle the testing — no need for a clean-sheet prototype (maybe just one or two test aircraft).

Same with J-16: it didn’t go through a big prototype stage, only one or two early aircraft.

Tejas Mk1A also didn’t have a major prototype programme — the “prototype” was basically an old Mk1 airframe modified with the new systems.

HAL can produce 12 aircraft in less than a year, so why would it take 5 years? It’s taking time because it’s Super Sukhoi.

There is ONLY Sukhoi 30MKI's only, and no Super Sukhoi as yet. So, yes - go ahead and make 12 x Su30MKI's ever year.

India ordered 272 Su-30MKIs in total (50 from Russia + 222 built by HAL).


HAL produced its 222 aircraft between 2004 and 2020 — roughly 16 years.
That’s an average of roughly 14 aircraft per year.
Peak rate was around 15–16 per year, and in the later years it was closer to 12 per year.


Current operational fleet stands at around 260 after attrition losses.

I am not quibbling the rate of production or the size of fleet.

I am stating, that there is only the Su30MKI standard variant, and as of yet there is no Super Sukhoi standard yet..... Any new builds will be the Su30MKI standard variant as the Super Sukhoi standard has NOT completed it development/prototyping stage.

The Bharati leadership should start bracing for more "Turkish Delights*" during the next bout! I, personally, am counting on stealthy KE for A2A and ANKA-3 for A2G fully autonomous ops deep inside Bharat. Technically they're drones! For a reason, the PAF Chief has made it a habit to visit Baykar during his twice a year visits to Turkey....

*I'm extremely partisan on the Turkish MIC for 90% of my friends from my alma mater's engineering departments work for it. Some of them have established their own companies.

I think India will use LM and drones in next skirmish, they found some success with the drones, and they will avoid sending large number of fighters, unless they are confident that they out-stick Pakistan's PL-15's. But just like India, Pakistan is making new strategies, they wont be sitting and relaxing, we have seen Pakistan getting new systems and AD's. more drones and LM/ anti drone systems are inducted, But i think right now given the region's issues/wars, I believe Indians will be avoiding a major fight with Pakistan, maybe close to next Indian elections whenever that is.

Which means there is a high chance that Pakistans biggest trump cars (PAF) gets taken out of picture.

Cant shoot down anything if there's nothing to shoot at.
