Unfortunately, both Hoa Phat and Vinmetal don't have the capability to cast and forge big steel ingots like a company such as Sheffield Forgemasters and that's the biggest weakness of our steel industry.

Vietnam, China economy is much intervened, the US unlikely wants total trade war.
I would not worry too much about in your case of China. Trump is a psycho, but he is not dumb.
I do more worry for
Indonesia, Thailand or Philippines. they are at much greater risk as manufacturing centers. They profited when Vietnam was at numerous wars, now we just return to normal state.

Vietnam and the US would never truly trust each other.

Since the US knows that Vietnam only conveniently uses the US to balance China's influence in ASEAN.

However, your ruling party is deeply committed to use China's political/economic playbook to run the country like the strong competitive state-owned enterprise to back up more elite private enterprises to foster more innovation and to outcompete the western economic model.
