Transportation agency reviewing robotaxi’s design and compliance with safety standards

Federal regulators have opened an investigation into Tesla and the company’s steering-wheel-free Cybercab to determine whether it complies with safety standards.

Tesla launched the Cybercab, a two-seater gold coupe without pedals or mirrors, saying Thursday that customers in Austin, Texas can book rides through its Robotaxi ride-hailing app.

Very interesting there are no steering wheels - i guess one way to ensure that passengers cannot interfere with the operation of the vehicle, and that the liability rests with Tesla solely if something goes wrong because it will be their tech at fault and not interference.

Damn damn interesting.. as there will come a point where the only fluids that may need replacing are screen washes, and the oil in the gearbox assembly(at 90k miles most people recommend).

Whatever you think of Tesla( 90% chance my next car to replace my 5-Series will be a Tesla Model 3 due to fewer moving parts and better/lower servicing costs and long term ownership costs ), you have to appreciate the innovation curve on vehicles!

I have been looking at electric cars recently, I think the UK is ready for it to be my next car type.

The BYD feels better made/more luxurious than a Tesla which is interesting.

I have little faith in BYD's after sales support and technical long term maintenance "attention". Tesla has a much better reputation in that regard.

All I can say is there are tons of Teslas on the road where I am and not many full-service centers. Nobody ever brings them in for issues. It's like buying an iPhone...you walk in and you never have a reason to go back to the store...and that's exactly what they want.





BUT you need home charging or your life will be MISERABLE and I can show an example of the extremes:








WTF!!! This is like at 11pm too...California is just so $%#% messed up in every way imaginable. Just pack up and leave...geez.

It's all about sales not "better" design. Flashy appearance car models come and go and it's about consistent sales not flash.

People just don't get it. Flash means nothing.
It's actually a detriment. The car company wastes tons of R&D and tooling money for little long term gain on a car that's hot and then completely not.

You want a consistent yearly seller like the Toyota Corolla. Not a flash in the pan like the Mitsubishi 3000GT.

Even in China you can see how a consistency strategy with not the most exciting looking cars can pay off

Do you see the cheaper-than-a-Tesla BYD Han or any of the other hyped cool looking cars with the greatest features talked about over the last 5 years? No, they will get awesome review videos saying they are great/magical/futuristic/amazing and then slip into the usual obscurity after a few years...and the boring ones remain.

The has stopped making car because it has no industrial strategy at all. All industry in the UK is on its own to make a profit or die, the government does not really help private companies or protect them or engage with them.
