This was a big controversy in France a few days ago.

The Eiffel Tower was forced to close due to a one-day strike by its employees. The walkout was triggered after union representatives revealed that management had instructed female staff to move away from their posts, avoid contact, or "make themselves invisible" during a private visit by a delegation of around 100 people from the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha (a Hindu socio-spiritual organization).

The Backlash & Response:
The CGT trade union condemned the instructions as gender discrimination and unacceptable in the workplace.
SETE (the company operating the Eiffel Tower) acknowledged receiving the request to limit female interactions and stated that accepting such conditions was inappropriate.

Paris city authorities and French politicians strongly criticized the incident, declaring that gender equality applies everywhere in France without exception and an investigation was launched.

BAPS issued an apology for any distress caused, stating they coordinated the visit to minimize disruption for normal visitors and did not intend for requests to be rooted in gender discrimination.

Resolution: Following meetings between staff unions and management, the strike ended and the Eiffel Tower reopened to visitors the next day.
