I use the video to motivate a question on drones, ai and robotics, specifically for Indian colleagues hence posting here

How do you feel about a Russia Ukraine type exchange between India and Pakistan using drones.

My feeling, and I say feeling, is due to the cheaper cost of drones the war has been prolonged and significant damage has been incurred directly or with the help of drones being in the mix

Whilst you can laud this from a distance, some of the attacks have been outrageous , operation spider web takiing out Russian bombers from within Russia

Pakistan and India are closer to one another, denser populations

Question, is Is this a type of warfare either is willing to live with and should they both just embrace it as a natural progression?

This drone warfare and unmanned combat vehicle warfare favors the side with the greater manufacturing capability and supply chains. In that field, China will be providing far more for Pakistan than India can manufacture as China dwarfs India in that domain.

If your hypothesis consists of China providing a large supply of it's own drones then yes. Even with Chinese supply + home production I don't think Pakistani war machinery could stand on equal footing with India. It's just basic size and economics of scale difference.

In an all out of war as this thread is suggesting only your own industrial capacity will eventually matter in the long run. Even Ukraine has moved on to domestic alternatives of weapons.

We don't have the capacity for long term war anymore. We want it to be over in a day or two, then fight it out in the social media/info landscape. Back in the day, if either India or Pakistan send bombs it's an act of war and we will be mobilising troops. Now act of war is "potential closing of water flow" with "potential" build up of military.

Russia and Ukraine war is Russian ego colliding with Ukrainian ego. There is no true blood libel like we have.

I think it favours the size with larger area, and more dastardly tactics, it doesn't take much that's my point

You could have a cell making drones in some van and send them to sensitive important infra, imagine if that's the norm, frightening reai

Throughout the course of human civilization, the technologies of offense and defense have consistently evolved in an alternating, spiral pattern. No single technological method is invincible.

Clearly, in today's international public opinion landscape, the tactical significance of drones is vastly overstated. AI technology, too, is heavily hyped. And the capabilities resulting from the combination of the two are being touted to an extreme, limitless degree.

However, let's calm down.

When camera-equipped mobile phones first appeared, people were deeply concerned about the issue of being secretly photographed. There was even talk of legally mandating that the "click" sound made when taking a photo could not be silenced or disabled. Years have since passed; while the problem of surreptitious photography does exist, it has proven far less severe than originally feared.

The "AI plus drone" arena is currently a hot topic globally, with many nations eager to get involved. However, the only true players are China and the United States. For other countries, it is merely a matter of political hype or a ploy by certain companies to secure government subsidies; These countries are simply not qualified to participate in this game.

This is very realistic—and cruel. But that is the world we live in.

Well they could do enough with drone's to cause pain

While I understand that your question was particularly from Indian posters, but I would like to add Pakistani side to this as well.

As you pointed out, effect of cost factor on winning a war har largely diminished due to introduction of cheaper drones and systems. What this means is that the 7x economic superiority that India enjoyed over Pakistan (that give India muscle in wars) is not that effective anymore as Pakistan can offer the same resistance as India and Pakistan can also prolong the war now.

The second aspect to this is that India is going to be the one facing major loses because it have the big targets. PAKISTAN, unfortunately, lacks big industries, largely runs on imports, and somewhat faces challenges with its infrastructure as well. This means very less targets for India. On the other hand, Pakistan can find atleast 1000 significant value targets within 250 km of border on indian side. So this also changes dynamics a little bit where India will keep hitting the same old targets but Pakistan will be targeting a new site every day.

Now, as someone pointed out that manufacturing capabilities for these systems will matter as well. Keep in mind that ukraine do not have a major factory manufacturing drones. They are now focusing on small units built insides houses and they are making thousands of drones every month. Pakistan can also do the same in 3 months and put equal punch to India.

That being said, I am not discrediting India or its capabilities. I am just saying that these developments have narrowed down the Gap of capabilities between India and Pakistsn becasue suddenly Pakistan is now able to afford same number of drones as India can.

China also makes shaheed like drone airframes commercially, they also have a paint that gives stealth. The airframe costs like $3000-4000. Putting an engine and a warhead in it wont cost more than a $2000 to Pakistan. So even if its local manufacturing is destroyed ,it can keep importing those ready-made airframes and just put a warhead on them and fire.

1. Not from its own usupply, they sell commercially as well now. Shaheed type drones. Search Feilong -300D.

Also, economy matters upto a level. Pakistan right now is making majority of drones locally. Assuming all of its manufacturing capabilities are destroyed. It can import 120,000+ of these drones for $1 billion.

Can India find targets in Pakistan that require more than 120,000 drones ??? I think after this figure, it doesn't matter how many more do you have when there is nothing to target

That's one way of looking at it, though the escalation ladder will come into play if you take out strategic assets

Taking Russia Ukraine as an example, it's a prolonged war where both sides have caused spectacular damage to one another via drones

Technically speaking having open ended state of conflict but simultaneously having drone warfare that can cause such damage might mean periodic flare-ups, remember you kind of know when fighter jets and missiles are coming, but drone operations where a cell within your own country can attack assets, like what the Ukrainians did, assembling the drones in a van in Russia..... how would people feel living under these conditions

It's like gray zone then now and again becomes black and white.
