Türkiye - Azerbaijan | Strategic Partnership, Regional Alliance, Military Cooperation - News & Updates

Türkiye really needs to help pull Azerbaijan away from Israel, it has the influence and now the capability. Is there anything that Israel makes that it cannot get from Türkiye ?
It depends on the context and case but generally speaking, Azerbaijan has more power over Ankara than Israel has over the US ruling class.

The power dynamics are complicated. We don't have as much control over them, or should I say, we don't have as much control over Aliyev.

Its not that oh Turkey doesn't have this tech and can't give him, that is why he is buying Israeli. I used to think that. But then as Turkey began to more or less build everything Israel has and he continued to buy Israeli instead of a Turkish equivalent, I began to understand that the game is a little different.

He EXPLICITLY buys Israeli to not become dependent on Turkiye. A matter of fact he sees Turkiye almost as a threat, like a Big Brother he doesn't want to become dependent on or that will have leverage on him.

He triangulates, buys, Russian, Turkish, Israel and now Chinese and even Serbian for some reason.

And in many ways does things that upset Turks. Like Azerbaijan will allow Catholic Churches and Israeli linked Synagogues to be built and even Protestant Churches, but he doesn't want the Turkish Dianet to build Hanafi mosques in Azerbaijan, for some reason he sees that as a threat to his power. Then as you are seeing he is doing weird stuff like banning headscarves for people who work in govt and schools and for schoolgirls, while allowing Jewish boys to wear their hats.

There is tension in the dynamics with Aliyev as much as there is partnership with Azerbaijan. For optical reasons Turkey is never going to confront him b/c Its not in Turkish interests and because it will only make things worse, as Turkey has more to lose than gain, and he isn't really dependent on Turkey where Turkey has enough leverage to force him to behave.

Recently he was downplaying Turkey's role in helping take back Karabagh, saying they bought the weapons and he doesn't make mention of Turkey as often anymore.
