As if the past century most Muslim countries haven't been ruled almost entirely by staunchly secular regimes that hated Islam, who've been nothing but thoroughly corrupt to the bone and brutally repressive to it's own, and accomplished nothing for their country or people for generations.
Not even sure how this event in Azerbeijan is related to Turkey however, they're two independent countries with two different unrelated governments.
Secularism doesn't mean you hate religion, it means you are free to be religious or to be irreligious. The worst thing you can do in todays world is force religion onto people, that turns people away.
In terms of corruption, most Muslim majority nations are corrupt to the core. The identity is just a face. Turkiye today is exceptionally corrupt despite claims of an islamist government.
In terms of Turkiye though it was a secular minded leader who created the Turkish state, saved it from division and occupation while also laying the foundations for the what nation has become today and potentially what it will become in the future.
It was a secular minded leader who stopped the white Christians applying the al andulus model to Turkiye, while also turning Antolia into a majority Muslim state.
It was secular minded leaders who went to war with the greeks and crushed the greek christians from exterminating the Muslim Turks. It was secular minded Alyiev that went to war with the christian armenians and liberated Muslim lands from the Armenian/Russian occupation.
While conversely Iran being a Islamic republic has spent most of its time killing Muslims. Its theocratic dictatorship has actually had the effect of turning Iranians away from Islam. Likewise do we need to talk about the Gulf states who have financed islamism on the behest of the USA to radicalise Muslims globally. Since the west needs radicalism, so they can then use it as an invite to come in and destroy muslims.
The point is that the underlying problem of corruption is not tied to seclarism or sharia, its tied the general attitude of a nations people. Most of these secular Muslim majority nations, will be just as corrupt if not more so under Sharia. since the underlying cause of corruption is not addressed.
"the people get the government they deserve". Your government becomes a reflection of your society. Look at the governments of Japan, Korea, China, the USA or anywhere else. If a nation is a utterly corrupt and a failure, its because the mass of her people have not elevated themselves to expect more from their governments.
