‘Pakistan’s poverty rate higher than India, B’desh’

Ask China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan to help us correct our economic situation.

Sure - here is the source, if you do a simple google search you will get the 287 USD number but needs to be adjusted for currency deflation. Same is the process for India and Bangladesh.

Also, what do you mean by country going through "stage 3" of demographic transition and how is it any different than India or Bangladesh?

Component1980 valueWhere it comes from
Real GDP (NY.GDP.MKTP.KD)$60.05bn, constant 2015 US$Pakistan’s official national accounts, plus OECD national accounts files and World Bank staff estimates. The World Bank links older base years back to 1980 and converts at the 2015 exchange rate.
Population (SP.POP.TOTL)82.29M (midyear)UN World Population Prospects, cross-checked against national statistical office figures
= GDP per capita$729.78GDP ÷ population
I cited Nominal GDP per capita, which was 287 in 1980, crossed the 700 range in 2004 to 1901 today in 2026.

When a country hits stage 3 of the transition it moves from having less dependents to more working age adults contributing in the economy. So when india had a median age of 22 - we can line up its per capita GDP at that time with Pakistans today for a more apt comparison.

Yup and there in lies the gap - you need to adjust these nominal GDP figures for a currency deflator (e.g., constant USD - say 2015 or any other year), convert all the nominal figures accordingly and then calculate real CAGR. That is what the calculation is... that is why the 287 figure (nominal) is higher in real terms (the currency deflator used is in 2015, but you can take any other year as long as same is applied across all other #s)

The reason why this adjustment is needed: PKR, INR, Takka etc. have all deflated vs USD over the years. So if we're using the USD figure, 287 used to get a lot more vs. say 700 in 2004. When you adjust 287 for the USD in 2004, you will find real GDP growth.

As for stage 3 - can you do the calcs so I can understand your logic/point better. I provided it for real GDP 1980-2000 and 2000-2025, so its only fair we talk #s - you can for eg. provide how the demographic % of overall populations have changed over the years... Actually I did it - see below. Change in working pops between 1980-2025 is about 12% for India and 6% for Pakistan, but the actual levels are only ~20% different. So, hypothesis is that the productivity of Indian working population is a lot more vs. Pakistan (which can explain the gap). Net net its not just the working population difference but also productivity thats different

You can't adjust and not do the same for the cost of goods, which have changed across the board since then. The deflationary effect for things like electronics for example is through the roof between now and then especially for the developing world. That's why nominal number matters - thats what it actually buys on the global marketplace at the time.

When india had a median age of around 22 like Pakistan today both countries have a similar range of dependents (from the 4th table - 95 to 99) - so we can look at the per capita GDP for india at that time and line it up with Pakistan today. That gives a comparison of both at a similar stage.

Its due to constant new blackout in Pakistan. Mainstream media only shows what military approves.
Still India has more poverty than Pakistan in Absolute Numbers, this is due to India's 1.5 billion population.

If Pakistan has more poverty percentage than India and Bangladesh, then I have to concede this is our fault too. The fault of our leadership and economic policies.

I think 2 days ago a family of 4-5 did suicide, it was in karachi I guess. The male (head if family) was only 28, married with kid and had one sister. All did suicide. Because they were struggling and no one came to support. Close family members even blocked their contact numbers.
Its his parents fault for brainwashing him k tu nay shadian karni hain, bachay nikalnay hain, ghar khareedna hae/ gaddian khreeday ga tu, then send em bachay to convent iss-Kool and den you become mazhabi sikh wid manhoos osama face and den you die like hendu-pak? Ye kya bukvaas life hae? And secretly you have muzz-Limm Eff-Sola and Rambo/ Top Gunn'd colonial wet dreams?

Da Fuqq is dis rubbish?

Ye jahiliyat ab nahi chalay gee!

Our country and all of us are seriously embarrassed now.

True, we need to industrialize our economy. Improve the Economy and the Education.

Meiji Japan's policy: "Rich Country, Strong military."

We need the Rich Country part. We need billionaires.

Without land reform you will be chasing shadows forever there will be hundreds of reasons but the root cause is always land reform.
