• Oman rescues 25 sailors after merchant ship attacked, set ablaze
• Iran halts three oil tankers in Hormuz for ‘unauthorised crossing’
• G20 talks overshadowed by deep rifts over conflicts in Iran, Ukraine

TEHRAN: A Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran on Friday for talks with senior Iranian officials, state media reported, as mediators press efforts to revive peace talks with the United States amid rising fears of a return to hostilities in the Middle East war.

The delegation, led by a senior adviser to Qatar’s prime minister, came to discuss “bilateral relations … as well as regional developments”, the state news agency IRNA said.

It is the latest in a string of visits by senior officials from several countries to the Iranian capital in recent days, as fears grow that the war, now in its eighth month, could flare up again.

Qatar and Pakistan have mediated talks since an April ceasefire. The war began on Feb 28, when US-Israeli strikes on Iran killed the former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran retaliated with attacks on Israel and US assets, and has since blocked ships from using the Strait of Hormuz, which normally carries about a fifth of global oil consumption.

The tension at sea was underlined on Friday when Oman said it had rescued 25 sailors from a merchant ship that was targeted and set ablaze.

Muscat’s navy carried out an evacuation of the crew of the Panama-flagged RITI after a fire broke out on board, Oman’s Maritime Security Centre said.

Separately, Iran said three oil tankers had been halted as they crossed the blockaded strait. The Revolutionary Guards said two vessels attempting to pass through an unauthorised route “encountered incidents and were brought to a halt” in waters south of the strait after ignoring radio warnings.

A third supertanker, carrying two million barrels of oil, exploded and caught fire after striking a naval mine while on an unauthorised route, the Guards added.

Meanwhile, the fallout from the conflict has reached the diplomatic stage in the United States. Speaking to G20 counterparts in Atlanta, including Russia’s Sergei Lavrov, the US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, said the world faced a critical “moment of choosing” in tackling “interconnected economic and geopolitical crises” as the wars in Ukraine and Iran deepen divisions among members.

The strains were visible before the two-day meeting began. A traditional group photograph was cancelled after European officials objected to appearing alongside Lavrov.

The German foreign minister, Johann Wadephul, said: “There is no normality with Russia.”

Experts and diplomats said the deep rifts over the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East were likely to derail any unified action or joint statement.

The gathering, held just days before the US midterm elections, also comes as global energy prices have soared since the US war on Iran began. It sets the stage for a G20 leaders’ summit in December at Donald Trump’s Doral resort in Miami.

whats with these people taking turns going to tehran? First it was the other 3, now the qataris. What's different this time that wasn't already said or discussed before?
I appreciate the efforts but just wanna understand why these are all split up

Hi,

Brother they are not split. Saudi delegation was regarding MECCA Defensive pact and those priorities. The Qataris were also in Iran at the time, but they were given a new letter to pass to Iranians by Vance, the Iranians took that onboard and stated they will go down the route of a 7 day peace plan if the US offers certain concessions themselves include releasing of frozen assets etc with (handover of nuclear material to a third nation- BEING a red line for Iran).

This the Qatari's took back to Washington, obviously this wasn't what the US wanted, so they sent another counter proposal back via the Qataris, which has not had a good reception in Tehran so far.

Ultimately, both sides actually want to end the stalemate and whilst some in the region may be optimistic about a positive outcome, what happens on Wednesday is anyone's guess. But the pullback of non-essential personnel from KSA and the movement of aircraft away from Qatar and back to Jordan and Israel is a signal no one should ignore.

The US in addition to having P8's already in region have repositioned 2 x RC-135V/W Rivet Joint aircraft to CENTCOM AOR, 1 to replace the existing aircraft assigned to CENTCOM missions which had been in the region for 5 months and another as a reserve. (Understanding why such aircraft have been moved into the region so close to the Nov the 3rd deadline is crucial.

There are now 139 USAF refuelers in the region that WE KNOW about. US Air Mobility Command flew 39 flights into CENTCOM AOR doing heavy lift from Oct 8 to Oct 30th with the biggest surge being during October 27th and 29th...

The French refuelers are now operating on the central and Eastern flank and the British refuelers and their escorts are now working solely on the South western flank... You now have AAD batteries from multiple European countries operating in the region in a "defensive operation" along with multiple naval vessels from EU nations tasked to Operation Aspides - being re-tasked to the Red Sea.

We just want these two wars to end before some tragic accident or events took things for worse. Some players do not want the Middle East War to end. Russia I can name for one Israel for sure as well and they have lots of leverage and people in Middle East to inflame. I am however going offtrack and one question bothers me. Are we in World War 3 initial stage. This is a great history question because the *official start dates* we learn in school were decided _after_ the wars by historians, not during the wars.

WORLD WAR I

*Historian's official start: July 28, 1914*
Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia.

*What people at the time thought they were fighting:*

1914-1915: Everyone called it *"The European War"* or *"The Great War"*. Even newspapers.

The term *"World War"* was actually used very early by a few intellectuals:
- Karl Brandi, German historian, first used "Weltkrieg" (World War) in August 1914.
- American magazine _Time_? No, but _The New York Times_ used "World War" in 1914.

But the public didn't feel it was a _world_ war.

*When did people realize it's a world war?*
*Mid-1915 to April 1917 - About 1 to 3 years later.*

1. *Late 1914:* War spreads to Africa, Pacific, Middle East (Ottoman Empire joins in Oct 1914). People in colonies realize.
2. *1915:* Gallipoli, Japan seizes German colonies, submarine warfare global. The term "World War" becomes common in British press.
3. *April 6, 1917:* US enters. At that point, soldiers from 5 continents are fighting. Only then did the average American/British soldier say "this is truly a world war."

So: *Gap = ∼2.5 years* between official start and mass public realization.

Historians only fixed July 28, 1914 as start _after_ the war at the Paris Peace Conference 1919.

WORLD WAR II

*Historian's official start: September 1, 1939*
Germany invades Poland. Britain & France declare war Sept 3, 1939.

*What people at the time thought they were fighting:*

1939-1941: Most people called it *"The War in Europe"*, *"The European War"*, or *"The War of 1939"*. In America it was not a world war at all.

Roosevelt deliberately called it a "European war" to avoid getting involved.

*When was the term "World War II" first used?*

- *September 1939:* _Time Magazine_ actually first prints "World War II" on Sept 11, 1939 - 10 days after invasion of Poland. So journalists knew.
- But governments didn't use it.

*When did people realize it's a world war?*
*December 7-11, 1941 - About 2 years and 3 months later.*

1. *Sept 1939 - June 1940:* War is only in Europe.
2. *June 1940 - June 1941:* War spreads to North Africa, Battle of Britain, but still Europe/Africa.
3. *June 22, 1941:* Germany invades USSR. Now war is from Atlantic to Pacific Russia. Still not truly global.
4. *December 7, 1941:* Japan attacks Pearl Harbor.
5. *December 8-11, 1941:* US declares war on Japan, Germany declares war on US. Now US, UK, USSR, Japan, Germany, Italy all fighting across Atlantic and Pacific.

On *Dec 11, 1941*, Roosevelt finally said: _"We are now in this war. We are all in it — all the way."_ The US War Department officially started using "World War II".

*Gap = 2 years, 3 months* between historian's start date and people realizing it's a world war.

> *Interesting paradox:*
> For both wars, historians chose the _first shot in Europe_ as the start date, but people at the time only called it a "world" war when fighting spread beyond Europe and reached Asia/America.

The same thing happened with Cold War - historians say it started 1947, but people didn't call it "Cold War" until Walter Lippmann's book in 1947, 2 years after it actually began. With this AI taking over our livelihood and these Wars, I have a very pessimistic view of future.

A question out of curiosity, do you really believe this part is true?
Nothing is ever true when it comes to "geo-politics". Largely from available tracking info the French aircraft all seem to be floating around border with OMAN whilst the British Aircraft have been focused around KSA and obviously Jordan too.

Bro, defensive area means French waters. How can we accept French is there for a defensive operation, i mean, around Oman?!

Its ok if you support western narrative, everyone is entitled to own opinion, i just wanted to point to reality of their operations in this region.

My brother defensive area in context here means any area where their allies operate... Saudi is a strategic ally of France and several EU nations.

Maybe you didn't read properly. Please re read my post and finally please stop accusing people of supporting X narrative or Y narrative.

It's not a good look.

Your point stands correct. Since this thread is related to Iran, i had different understanding of your comment.

French operation in this region from Iranian perspective can be a considered as a threat and related to NATO-CENTCOM terrorists operations.

My dear brother the only way out of this impass now is dialogue, nothing else.

The main problem isn’t just war and peace; it’s a clash of cultures, civilizations, and ideologies. Even a superficial look allows for a logical analysis of American leadership: Trump’s team is comprised of very dirty individuals, with him at the helm. This clown and those around him, like Pete Hegseth, are among the most corrupt figures in the world today. The plight of the innocent in Libya is not something to be easily dismissed. The miseries in Palestine, Yemen, and even Syria were caused not by Muslims, but by the United States. This war has no end, dear brother. Either one side surrenders, or war will continue, and the battlefield will determine the destiny of the region.

In our view, Israel has no place in this region. Muslim governments, including Arab ones, must stop obeying U.S. orders, or they will pay the price. Some political circles in Iran might believe in peaceful talks, potentially forcing the leadership and people to accept U.S. terms, but history repeats itself. Like fools who trusted their enemy only to be betrayed, we have seen this before—the JCPOA was exactly that. You saw what those corrupt and bloodthirsty American leaders did with that agreement. In short, negotiating with the U.S. is, in the eyes of the Iranian people, a waste of time and energy.

Your well wishing is not ignored and welcome by me, in my personal point of view, USA represents the evil force that fought Imam Hossein (A.S.). You cannot expect us to shake hands with Trump, even if Iranian liberals (reformists) want so.

As it currently stands the true winner in this conflict has been Israel and any further expansion of the conflict will only benefit Israel's objectives only further. There is no way prolonged conflict can be sustained in the region.

USA wants us to surrender, we refuse to and hence war is coming. Its the most concise phrase for my writings.

Probably back door channels carrying messages form countries that don't officially want to be seen talking to Iran e.g. US and many of its allies.

It was Vance's letter, they were merely conveying it as an intermediary.
