  • Fa’az marks milestone in Pakistan’s defence capabilities.
  • Missile designed to engage longer-range aerial targets.
  • Test witnessed by military officers, scientists, engineers.

Pakistan has successfully conducted the flight test of its first indigenously developed Fa’az air-to-air missile, marking a significant advancement in the country’s aerospace and defence capabilities, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the missile is equipped with a state-of-the-art terminal guidance system and is capable of engaging enemy aerial targets at longer ranges.

The Fa’az missile is expected to enhance the operational flexibility of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and further strengthen the country’s overall defence posture, the statement said.

It added that the successful flight test demonstrated the technical maturity, innovation and self-reliance achieved by Pakistan’s defence industry.

Senior officers of the Pakistan Armed Forces witnessed the launch alongside scientists and engineers involved in the development of the advanced weapon system.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as well as the services chiefs, congratulated the scientists and engineers on the successful test.

The development follows the Pakistan Army’s successful test launch of the extended-range version of the Fatah-2 hypersonic ballistic missile on October 13, 2026.

According to the military’s media wing, the Fatah-2 Extended Range (ER) weapon system is equipped with advanced navigation and state-of-the-art avionics.

The missile can engage targets with high precision and penetrate enemy missile defence systems owing to its “unique trajectory and manoeuvrability features”, the ISPR said.

It added that the extended range of the Fatah-2 ER would further enhance the Pakistan Army’s reach and its ability to strike deep targets.

[EDITTED] - the news itself is most welcome. It looks like a SD-10 class missile with a similar range?

This type of munition made locally should cheaper to cheaper cost of taking down drones/uavs than before with an imported missile and they can progress to better versions down the road.

IR guided BVR AAM?

The PAF has wanted an IR guided BVR for some time now, they were interested in getting the MICA IR which the french rejected.

look at the picture in the link.

Thanks - the link was in urdu and I can't read the lingo( let alone speak it that well ) so i ignored it. Looks real and like you said, IIR based looking at the nose of the missile.

An IIR based BVR missile - is the ultimate silent killer ..

yes - yes. I did speed read it on my phone and didn't see the video, initially. I do now. Thanks.
In all fairness, I added the video after your comment. Nonetheless, its a GEO news article, link provided......
