US 2026 Midterm Elections Thread

What will a Democratic Congress mean for Ukraine?

While Donald Trump’s party suffered a stinging defeat in midterm elections this week, his efforts to end the war in Ukraine continue as negotiators from the US, Russia and Ukraine are set to meet in Abu Dhabi next week. With Democrats now in control of both chambers of Congress, lawmakers are looking to use their spending and oversight powers to bolster support for Ukraine and impose further sanctions on the Russian economy.

Democrats on Capitol Hill are looking to put together a new package of security assistance for Kyiv, which one Democratic aide on the House foreign affairs committee put to be in the range of $15bn.

You sure about that?
Democrats can do anything they want. Trump has a veto pen. I doubt the Democrats will be able to get enough Republicans on board to override a veto

We've not had that since the early 2000s.
September 11 2001 Pearl Harbor Pearl ,Harbor December 7 1941, yeah but people be people neither side is immune believe it or not I was 💯 percent behind Bush but he went down that rabbit hole that he couldn’t get out of and I know he regrets quite a few decisions he made but Trump is a guy who wants to be worshipped he believes his legacy will make him immortal but he’s going down as a laughing stock

Trump will be in good company then.

I was introduced to Steve Bannon by a German-American lady friend around the 2020 elections, IIRC. She denies she is for any political party but she has a big MAGA sticker on her car for a decade. Haha.
Here is Steve Bannon about the Midterms. I have only watched first dozen minutes of the video. Steve, like Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly, is/was a stalwart of the MAGA movement and just like those two others, Steve can't pointedly blame Trump and is careful about blaming Israel. Yes, they all blame Israel, as Steve does in this video, but they seem to shy away from blaming President Trump himself directly.
When will people grow a spine and admit they bet on the wrong horse? It is the same question I ask of Pakistanis here about their love for a certain discredited imprisoned leader of Pakistan. Why not admit you were wrong and that you put your faith in a psychopath, Narcist person whether in America or in Pakistan.

Anyway, here is Steve:

Ok I guess midterms are over basically but I saw this article I’m like if your innocent nothing to hide why do you need to come up with a defense the best defense is a good offense give the democrats everything and show you have been doing everything by the book
And this is why, if they are doing that, they are going to lose the 28 election

1/3 of the reason why they vote blue this time is the preceived corruption (And I used this in a negative way as I believe there are more to the surface) of Republican, and if they are going to play a dodgy party route instead of trying to compromise with the Dem and get stuff done, then they are done for 28.

Funny they wanted regime change in Iran.

The regime change came in Israel and in USA. LOL!

Still getting caught up on links I flagged the past couple of days:

The event occurred in 2019. Can't believe it took this long to serve her. Why wasn't a warrant issued?
She was issued with a summons (like an appearance notice), and the court was backed up since COVID, so it probably adjourned the case and recently picked it back up (It's a class H felony, just a tint above misdemeanor)

Arrest usually only happened to flight risk with a high degree of other punishable offence before the trial, which, because we had a presumption of innocence, you don't generally detain people unless there is a probable cause to believe they are going to commit another crime when they are out; usually for a low-level felony, the court will issue a summons for the defendant, and can be tried in absentia, and only had a warrant issued after the verdict, since jail time is not likely. Especially in her case. First-time offence, no criminal record, and has a steady job.

That's the same reason you don't issue a warrant to a DUI/DWI defendant.

That's what the Dems want, actually,

Remember 2022? GOP did the same after winning the House by a slim margin with every policy and every bill, and the Dems fought them left and right, and nothing got done, and Biden got the blame in the end. And pulled 24 to the GOP, even with Latino voters........

If Trump did the same here with a veto pen, you are going to expect the same thing to happen to Trump and the GOP in 28 if Trump can be seen to be hampering the process and progress......Really, the only difference is, Dems didn't get destroyed in 22; GOP got demolished in 26. And Trump is probably more hated than Biden........... It would be astronomically stupid for Trump to use that Veto Pen...If nothing is done in the next 2 years, 28 will probably be defaulted to the Dems, and you will probably have a Senate supermajority this time around.
