I don't think Iran intended to do significant damage, if you mean flattening half of the country. They're responding to a attack on their embassy in Syria. What they showed:

-They can easily overwhelm Israeli air defenses. Israel cannot defend against more waves like that.

-They can target anywhere in Israel. The strikes were hitting military bases all over Israel, or at least targeting them, whether some were intercepted or not.

Israeli's were expecting Iran to target 2-5 sites with smaller concentrated strikes, imo. Almost all of Israel except Tel Aviv area was targeted. If Israeli's escalate and Iran sends more waves towards Tel Aviv, their airports and runways and other important installations will come under fire. Israeli's tonight feel they don't have a qualitative advantage anymore. They can flatten tiny defenseless Gaza but they cannot deal with Iran. Which is they threaten using nukes like the disgusting Nazi savages they are.

Some of areas targeted(unclear how much damage there is now. Israel is not gonna broadcast damage immediately to the whole world and let Iran feel emboldened):

1.)Dimona industrial zone (many targets in this area)
2.) Hatzerim airbase in Beer Sheva
3.) Israeli settlements in West Bank and Israeli government buildings in Jerusalem

I will go one further.
Not even a single high ranking Israeli official will be killed.

Israel killed two Iranian generals.
Iran will destroy some buildings that were give 6 hours to evacuate.

What is Iran's objective?
To avenge the deaths or to destroy infra?

Its iconic but extremely sad image to see, how the Children of Abraham is fighting over like animals. Sometimes I wonder that it was the test of Jews from Allah that how far they will go for a piece of land to create chaos in this world, and for Muslims its a test of patience. Shameful behavior by America/UK and west over stoking the clouds of War by becoming bullies from a balancing power. @RescueRanger

At this point the ball is in Israel’s court. If Israel does a big response then I expect the the second attack by Iran to be much more fierce.

Iran already said they have prepared a stronger second wave in case Israel responds. Hajizadeh said Iran prepared 400 ballistic missiles in case USA responded to Iran's strikes at al Assad airbase in Iraq.

That's the biggest question. How far is the US willing to go to defend Israel? US reputation right now is already down the drain, this was retaliation for attacking a diplomatic mission. Anything more than this would be condoning Israeli actions.

You forgot what Bush told the then-PM of Pakistan, make way, give us accesses to your bases or we'll bomb you back to barbarians. Do you think Pakistan has the delivery missiles to hit back at the US?
 
This is OFFICIAL ISRAEL STANDS DOWN there will be no response...... The US has told them to stand down to avoid facing an invasion.. tail between their legs
