“based on 1960’s missile” is very misleading. I could also say Abrams is based on Payton’s tank from WW2 and it would technically be true.
It’s a highly upgraded SM-2 which is used in US Navy to this day. It’s simaritlies end with the 1960 version as the entire inner components (engine, seeker, analog to digital, etc) has been changed.
And I wouldn’t call Israeli F-16/F-15 “highly advanced”. Most Israeli F-16’s are 20-30 years old. They lack many of the design improvements found in later blocks that reduced the RCS. It’s the targeting pods and electronic pods that help Israel stick out among other operators, but all those add to RCS as well.
A Sayyad-2 is more than capable to bring down F-16, it all depends on what it is using for search & track as well as targeting radar and what the seeker type is.
For all we now that Sayyad-2 was 10+ years old.
Missile makes sound as it comes down. Everyone is trained on drone sounds. Taliban used to pass out instructions on when not to operate or when to realize a predator drone is in the air.
One thing I remember was it said to not move about on clear days. These drones typically hang out in 15,000-30,000 ft area so they need mostly clear weather to do assassination strikes.
