Pakistan's Airborne Early Warning and Control Aircrafts

I
Still maintains an edge over iaf in awacs department saab erye is not a joke very advanced platform getting replaced by saab is better for paf.
i Think PAF should maintain both types... If they are not satisfied today .. what were they doing for last 10 years. I can't believe they have not spoken to Chinese and I can't believe Chinese are not willing to fix the snags .. there is something fishy around this news

New SAAB Revealed. SN:18081 10020, 10040, 11045. Officially 1 Destroyed replaced with 18081

Is this thread accurate? @farooqbhai @Oscar

We currently have (9) and will receive 4 additional ones that will total to (13), the newer ones are said to be more advanced ER variants, and apparently previous models will also be upgraded?

9 AWACS - Saab + ZDK
So when the 4 come in and the ZDKs are let go - the 9 number remains.

Political pressure forced that purchase - mentioned multiple times and it is rumored that the chief at the time got into trouble with the kammando because of his objection for it.

Not sure if it was just diplomatic pressure from the OEM country or some greasing of palms too the general grapevince consensus is that the PAF did not want the ZDK. So whoever made it happen lost the PAF money by buying them then AND not buying more Erieyes ANd the PAF having to buy more now at a higher price and exchange rate
Western equipment always has a "availability" issue. For us anyway. Wonder if that had any bearing.

We had seven operating before, and we received one last month, for a total of eight Erieyes and four ZDKs.

12 operational AEW&Cs...

9 Erieyes is a good number, in wartime with surge capability (skipping major overhauls and halting training) you can push for at least 3 in the air at any given time. That is pretty much extensive coverage of all the Eastern front

lets see .... I dont see the ZDK's being retired anytime soon ... truly dont see it. This is all speculation with no official source stating this.
We are not retiring the planes. The radar on them is being retired. The planes will be given some other role. Could be transport or some other special role.

And three more will be coming so it means total 11 SAAB Erieyes.
