it would be nice to develop an inhouse AEW&C in the future with possibly a friendly nation. actually definitely with a friendly nation.

Not at all - if anything, it would be a pointless waste of funds when you already have now more AWACS than your neighbors and even if you retire the less than useful ZDKs plenty for your airspace. The Erieye is an excellent platform and it will serve the PAF will for the next 20 years especially with upgrades available via Saab with potentially no issues.

Pakistan doesn’t have funds available for every project it wants.

Why retire the ZDK, can't the platform be not turned into transport or tankers? The aircraft is close to C-130 level.

The ZDK is based off Russian An-12 which is a gas guzzler and hard to maintain. Comparing it to the C-130 is a joke
