You have to negotiate with your enemy. That's an old concept to avoid international attention on yourself esp if you are new to world stage. Point is, we shouldn't sacrifice everything for nothing. Even if that negotiation took 1 century, we should have never accepted western terms without ensuring removal of sanctions temporarily.

I doubt about that 20% but for presidency I also doubt they let Aref or Saeed Mohammad
I believe country need new blood not the usual suspects , they already tried and failed times and times .

but honestly presidency is political suicide in Iran , it destroy your popularity and approval.
the only president that we had and nobody dare to bad mouth him was Martyr Rajaee and you must count his presidency days not months. Raeesi harmed his popularity a lot when tried the job. when he was head of judiciary system everyone liked him , he could easily be next supreme leader without a single opposition, but after 3 year of presidency ,.......

Saeed Mohammad is exactly new blood, even Aref is new-ish blood considering we didn't have a reformist president for 20 years now.

about destroying popularity, I think that is more or less similar in most countries

Ironically if Trump didn't win electoral college vote in 2016, I doubt anyone would say Rouhani and Zarif are traitors... in 2016 their popularity was at record high levels while in power. we can argue about their approach and policies but they are clearly patriots who want the best for Iran, just like Raisi (even though I disagreed with almost all his policies, except for his support of the Resistance) and others
