Majority of the country voted for them last year and suddenly they forgot their whole ideology. Froze all the major defence programs,changed the MoD,went pro-American to the bone,made illogical decisions when it came to military equipment acquisitions,hastily brought the whole "homosexual marriages" law to the parliament and demanded it to be voted,meanwhile the left was against them,but couldn't say no. They would look non-progressive,
except the Communist Party which firmly didn't vote for it. And then long-time voters of ND got so pissed off about this,they were fed up,they said "that's it,enough with these morons".

But it still doesn't negate the fact that Stoltenberg is one of the worst NATO leaders,he is just terrible.

Because he said that Turkiye extremely important as an ally for NATO


Stoltenberg is Angela Merkel's choice to lead the alliance, regarded as the main instrument for keeping USA in Europe

First of all,get over GD,they stopped being functional since the mid-2010s or so. Get over it.

Second,I voted for them in the second round last year.

Türkiye to Lead NATO Amphibious Task Force (ATF) in 2025​

Türkiye’s Amphibious Task Group completed NATO’s readiness inspection and will assume its NATO leading mission from Spain between July 2025 and June 2026.

(Turkish MoD weekly press briefing was held Turkish Military Academy to celebrate Atatürk's enrollment in the school on March 13.)

The Turkish Ministry of National Defence (MoD) spokesperson, Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, provided details on Türkiye’s upcoming NATO mission following the joint naval exercise with Spain from 26 February to 1 March 2025. Rear Admiral Aktürk stated, “Our Amphibious Task Group Command has completed the first phase of the NATO Combat Readiness Inspection, conducted between 4-7 March, in preparation for its role within the NATO Response Force (NRF), the NATO Amphibious Task Force (ATF), and the NATO Landing Force (LF).”

According to Aktürk, Türkiye will assume this NATO duty from the Spanish Navy on 1 July 2025 and will continue its responsibilities until 30 June 2026.

The exercise, misinterpreted by Greek media as an offensive operation, was a routine military drill within allied cooperation.

With the US taking a backseat, Turkey, with large population base and bolstered by new weapons developments and its growing industrial base, has an opportunity to take a leading role in NATO/EU. Let's see what Turkey decides and how successful it is if it pursues this path. If Turkey plays its cards right, it has a pretty decent chance of becoming part of the EU and a very significant one.

Idk how much of a role will be possible. They are trying to build a EU Defense structure that is separate from NATO rather than salvage NATO via a "coalition of the willing" type of thing.

Turkey has friends in the EU, but it also has adversaries, and the thing with the EU is it requires unanimity to function, so its unlikely that Turkey would be part of the new structure, if NATO were to disappear. Its one of the reasons as to why I favor trasatlanticism atleast from a tactical perspective, b/c it curbs the power of Eurocentrists.

If NATO were to collapse, contingencies should be made for Bilateral and multilateral pacts outside of the EU. Namely some sort of working arrangement with Friendly countries in the Balkans, something like a Turkey, Albania, Kosovo structure, possibly including Northern Macedonia and Bosnia if possible.

As well as Bilateral cooperation with Spain, Italy and the UK. Increased cooperation with Eastern European Euroskeptics like Hungary.

My suggestion was more of an opportunity-driven plan, while yours is more of a contingency plan. Both can be pursued simultaneously.

It may be stated that way due to accounting differences of how Turkey tracks weapons development/R&D, pensions, alongside procurements and running costs. The UK does some "magic" to make it look like 2.1% when it is not 2.1%.

We spend about 40 billion dollar total, that 20 billion is for new equipments and maintenance. Other 20 billion is for the armed forces wages, bases in other countries things like that. So not 1.3 maybe 3.5.
