Bangladesh Socio-Political Crisis 2024 and onwards

Which is better? one party rule or anarchy?

Anarchy is excuse which many dictators and despots from 3rd world sell. They first create environment for anarchy themselves like Hasina did.

With Gandhi/Nehru and now Mujib legacy in gutter, only Jinnah legacy have survived test of time because he was not interested in power.

But USA was against Hasina govt, that much is clear. Just like USA was against Imran Khan.

And since both countries are flawed democracy with weak institutions, it was not hard to predict Hasina downfall after relations with USA turned sour. In many ways Bangladesh "democracy" was worse, with just one party rule and opposition in jail.

We know and understand the local situation in BD. This is a student movement, a genuine one. Theis is not a color revolution by the US.

The US was against Hasina before the election but came to an understanding with India and Hasina. That matter was settled. The US was not against Hasina after the understanding, which is why Hasina managed to rig the election again.

@UKBengali always had laughable expectation of Bangladesh and its economy. Hasina manipulated the numbers and now we see the action from the people. Bangladesh is doen the drains now.

On a similar note, why are Indian Muslims so submissive and weak?
Because they are not well organized like hindu groups are. Plain and simple. Muslims in India ere effectively like afro-americans in the USA.

His expectations were not laughable. If they were, they were no more laughable than Indians' expectations of India as a country and economy.

DHAKA: In the wake of Prime Minister Hasina Wajid's resignation amid nationwide protests, a group of demonstrators attacked the official residence of Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan in Dhaka.

The protesters, who had been demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Wajid, vandalised the property, smashed furniture and looted valuables, including cars.

Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan had departed the premises just moments before the attack, narrowly avoiding harm. However, the security guards stationed at the residence were unable to prevent the protesters from entering.

It is pertinent to mentioned here that Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid has stepped down from the post in the face of mass protests demanding her resignation.

Earlier reports had said that the prime minister had left the capital Dhaka, a source close to the embattled leader said.

"She and her sister have left Ganabhaban (the premier's official residence) for a safer place," the source told AFP. "She wanted to record a speech. But she could not get an opportunity to do that."

Rallies against civil service job quotas sparked days of mayhem in July that killed more than 200 people in some of the worst unrest of Hasina's 15-year tenure.

The development was followed by Bangladesh's army chief Waqar-uz-Zaman address the nation during which he announced that the deaths during the anti-government protest would be investigated.

The army chief added that an interim government would be formed in the country and that talks in this regard were under way.

Wouldnt we all love this in Pakistan!

When you have a fanatical state structure against you, then you either remain submissive and hope to go under the radar or fight and start a civil war that will almost certainly result in your mass slaughter.

It is easy for Pakistanis and BD'shis to accuse Indian Muslims of being submissive and cowards but look at the dire situation they are now in with the Hinduvta in charge.

I wrote a more detailed reply, but Mr X's captcha bust that up. Let me try again.

First, it's Muslim Indians, not Indian Muslims. They are one more sort of Indian, like the Hindu Indian, the Sikh Indian, the Buddhist Indian, the Christian Indian. Until these jackals took advantage of the mid-life crisis of the INC, and took power, they were proud Indians, confident of their place in Indian society, but aware that much more needed to be done, and that it was not being done.

Second, with the Sangh take-over, for the first ten years, as things went from bad to worse, the general consensus among Muslims, according to what some of their influentials have been reported saying, was to exercise sabr. Only the majority Hindus could set things right, and back on the tracks. The Muslim Indian had to wait for that.

Third, the disenchantment and the disillusionment has just begun, thanks to the brave efforts of a politician I had despised, who proved to have a backbone and fighting spirit. The recent elections were a slap in the face, but the danger is more acute now, not less. The lead bigot tends to double down when contradicted, or not followed, and will do so in much of the following five years.

Like I say bad economy since Covid-19 and resultant Ukraine war, + Hasina's stupid policies over the previous year in respect to giving too much to India(hence annoying China) and that "freedom figher" quota both combined to create a "perfect storm" to get rid of her.

She let power get to her head and so was turfed out. In one sense it bolds well for BD as it demonstrates that at least younger generation of BD population and BA will not tolerate tyrants that work against BD interests.

Despite her going, the useful stuff that she built like infrastructure and industrial capacity is still there. Future government can build on that.
