Our diplomats are very capable of handling delicate relations. We should let them do their and not complicate things for them by raising the temperatures. So relax and let them do their job, otherwise we will definitely lose our base there. Our base is more important than our feeling of Ahsaan Faramoshi.
On the other hand lakshadweep will be made next maldives with indian economic might and most of the western and indian tourist will prefer lakshadweep then. Can be replaced by more more western tourists with far stronger buying power. You really haven't looked into this.
The top 5 markets for Maldives thus far this year are Russia, India, UK, China and Germany. India had consistently remained at the top arrivals spot, especially post-covid. India, having exceeded pre-pandemic arrival numbers in 2021, is currently ranked at the #2 arrivals spot, with 117,131 visitors from India to the Maldives, with Russia on number 1, with 117,198 visitors by 15th July 2023. Additionally, 84,763 travellers from the UK, 77,202, travellers from China and 69,074 travellers from Germany have visited the Maldives this year. The UK and German markets had both exceeded pre-pandemic arrival figures by 2022. This year marks the first time that the China market, one of our traditionally strongest markets, has reached the top 5 since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

So Russians are more numerous and Brits, Chinese etc are just behind. Now with the numerous wealthy Americans coming over you seem to think they're in major trouble due to a boycott from Indians who love Modi.
You have heard of 'Saam Daam Dand Bhed'. Its in our blood. I would be very unhappy if we were not using it for furthering our interests. We bribe the nation. Not the individual. That is what all the projects are. To create a soft power there. We are not creating projects there because we are very altruistic. At the time we made those projects, we really did not have money to spare. Even today we don't have money to spare. It would be better to spend it on ourselves. But we do spend it on our neighbors. Because we need to create soft power.Bro, India dont bribe the elites in any country neither India fund unviable projects in any country. Be it African countries, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh. India does those projects only, which really bring something good to the people of that country.
It is just due to their Religious anti Hindu ideology and their corrupt elite, who were easily bribed by Chinese for funding unviable projects. They are neck deep into Chinese Loans. But still India helped Maldives in various ways.
And we all know what happens when you let your arm to this Loan-Shark called China.
But if your are slave of Ideology then nothing can salvage you. And this is what is happening with Maldives.
there are always two types of policies active and passive and in the long run always passive approach works and it seeps deep inside your psycie ..... now maldives will know what a blunder they had doneIndia has a habit of not milking after feeding. They have always been Muslim. Maybe we should question why they have suddenly started getting the Anti Hindu ideology.
Why are we allowing this country to fall into the hands of the Loan Shark when it is against our strategic aims. Do we want the loan shark to totally take over. What are the repercussions of the loan shark taking over. Do we just sit back bad mouthing the Maldives while the loan shark takes over. How do we prevent this from happening.
We have been supporting them for much longer even before China could even build any bases. 88, 2006 and so on. Let the next tsunami come and we will see how fast China will come to their aid in providing drinking water.
Nations should not seek purely minds of other nations. Material gains matter much more. For instance, after helping East Pakistan become independent, we should have solved all enclaves and exclaves in favour of Bangladesh in return of leasing a corridor through Bangladesh to support an alternative path to our north eastern states and should have constructed a Road and a railway line on it... may be by employing Bangladeshi workers of that time. All we did was to celebrate that we won. Winning is not enough, converting wins into gains matter more.there are always two types of policies active and passive and in the long run always passive approach works and it seeps deep inside your psycie ..... now maldives will know what a blunder they had done![]()

US was building bases to contain USSR. USSR had very little presence in this part of the world and to be honest, it was not even interested as much. Before rise of China, this part of the world, ie Maldives and Arabian sea had rather limited importance to west. The juicy bits were in Persian Gulf and middle east.Yes, we also supported them when the US was building bases all over the world.
It's an undeclared war now, that too by private citizens. What do you think? Will you keep blaming Modi?
Difference is : With China local Indian business makes money. With Maldives, not as much. Local businesses can sell other destinations (in and out of India) and ride this patriotic wave. When Galwan happened, we boycotted Chinese products for some time. Later we were back to buying Chinese mobiles. Our patriotism lasts for a few weeks. Everyone will be back holidaying in Maldives soon, like they are back to buying chinese products. Lakshadweep cannot handle a lot of tourists. It also has no alcohol.

Most of the time, its the needs of others that help you the most. A young nation with deep wounds and neglect. Give its leaders a cause to sell celebration to its population and they will happily sell your agenda. A nation that was crushed by those who were supposed to protect it.... Give it some small victories (like enclave exclave situation). They will convince themselves that they won. Meanwhile milk the situation in your favour.I agree that we should have got some concessions from Bangladesh when the iron was hot. Those should also have been long term so it needed to be wrapped in such a way that it would not feel that is was shoved down their throats.
What an odd coincidence.
Private citizens now fight the war against China. Against Pakistan. Against Bangladesh. You name it, it's private citizens, frothing at the mouth, jumping up and down, screaming at the tops of their voices.....every last military detail needed to beat the enemy.
While they display their diplomatic and military skills, the trade deficit with China climbed to $100 billion (no, I don't have a blocked nose, billion as in 'bhakt'); the Pakistanis come across and kill our soldiers and policemen at will, the Bangladeshis bask in our love and respect, while Doval polishes their junk ..... it goes on.
The question heroes like you should be asking is,"Why maintain an army, a navy, an air force? Any force will be handled, by Poonam Pandey is it? our Canadian citizen in charge of mango culture explorations, and the heroes in khaki shorts and pendulous moustaches.
