This is what I refer to as the over-defensive psyche. Politics needs cleaner less-burdened psyche, especially for long stretch at the top.

Yup I remember this when it came up. It was discussed pretty extensively in old PDF or maybe it was some other fora too I was keeping tabs on it.

I think it is much more sinister than just pressure from family and party. I think they finally received re-assurance from Modi govt that India will continue to support BAL. Immediately after his statement, we saw multiple events happening yesterday to destabilize Bangladesh almost simultaneously.

And India also now changed position and stated Hasina can stay longer in India. BJP just formed a committee to protect minorities in Bangladesh. I am certain they are hatching a nasty plan to destablize Bangladesh.

Very true. BAL has been positioning themselves as minority friendly and Indian media and government rubber stamps it. In reality, BAL only benefits those minorities who are actively involved in BAL politics.

There are plenty of cases from last 15 years where BAL leaders oppressed and forcefully acquired lands from poor Hindu families at gun-point. Plenty of Bangladeshi Hindus have taken the streets to protest against Hasina. In fact, probably the most influential critic of Hasina regime is Pinaki Bhattacharya, who has millions of listeners and probably played a key role in influencing people. He has been in exile for over a decade and he himself admitted numerous times that had it not been two shibir (Jamaat student wing) members, he would have been dead or rotting in one of Hasina's secret prisons.
 
Ideologically BNP doesn't have any more indelible bond with Jamat than BAL had previously.

How does everyone forget when in 1990s BAL joined in force with Jamaat against BNP? How does one forget the photo of Hassina touching the feet of Jamaat leader?

Later when she came to power in 2009, since then to the supress the opposition to her rule, it was convenient for her to dump Jamaat and BNP together as both happened to be her oppositions and shared an interest in dethroning her. And people bought into the synonym of BNP/Jamaat.

BAL had positive discrimination against Hindus + its alliance with India could be good reason for them to support it. But the assumption that BNP is anti Hindu is factually incorrect.

Someone crying 'allahu Akbar' joyfully rooting/voting for BNP is no evidence. This is not a religious affiliation. The reason many conservatives and religious people would vote for BNP is simply because it is not as evil as BAL was. Nor did it sell the country and its interests to the foreign powers. Which BAL repeatedly did to stay in power without people's mandate. One can debate the objectivity of my assertions, but this is the widely held perception among conservatives and religious people. It may come as a surprise to some, but yes, other than religion they also happened to care for the country they live in. Not that hard to understand.

I heard many hardcore religious people say, BNP is the least worst option. Still 'worst' because fundamentally its secularist approach to religious matters is no radically difference than BAL. But at least it did not loot the country at grand scale or shamelessly sell it to foreign power like BAL.

Scale matters, yes BNP was also corrupt, Ershad was also a dictator, but these are not comparable. Even two weeks ago people were saying, Ershad felt like an angel compared to Hassina.

Thus in the end, BNP's past alliance with Jamaat for political reason (just like BAL also had) or having religious people voting for it is no evidence for it being anti Hindu. One has to offer criticism of specific past policies toward minorities. I am yet to see anyone do that.

There are some things that is not easy to understand from the outside. No matter how knowledgeable or wise one is. One has to live here and experience it to see through some of this unique complexities and get to the core.

Not only that, destruction and vandalizing of Hindu temples are mostly carried out by BAL and they then blame BNP and Jamat. This has been their dirty politics for a very long time.

Yunus should take the opportunity to destroy both BAL and BNP permanently. There is plenty of evidence to criminally charge leaders from both parties. Wipe out BAL to decimate Indian influence while obliterate BNP to ensure we do not replace goons with goons in charge of government.
Destruction of BAL and BNP will allow new, youthful leadership to rise.
There is risk of religious extremists trying to fill the void but the BD population cannot be fooled that easily.

This caretaker government should stay on for at least a year.
