No one will sell fighter jets to Iran, not even Russia. Behind the scenes, Russia fully backs Israeli policies in the region. Iran should build its own fighter jet or make multibillion dollar trade deal with China and force them to sell defense equipment.

You have got to be joking with that - right?

You need both fighter jets and SAMs as part of an ADS to defend Iran. Right now - it will be a turkey shoot and Iranian airspace can be easily overcome. Look at how vulnerable SAMs are in Ukraine. You need the combination to be able to defend your airspace.

With "Axis of Resistance" fragmented weakened but more independent.

The likelihood of a defense deal with Iran increas.

Heavy jet su35 is more suitable, but Russia's priority is to exit the Ukraine war.

There was a rumored 36 J10c deal, probably only air-to-air missiles, limited or no air-to-surface package, to ease the concern from Saudi etc..

Not questioning its authenticity. Its just that news of such developments are so rare really, that an 'oh wow' moment occurred.

Dowran was slated to receive PL-12 (SD-10A) missiles. I wonder if these had ever actually been delivered?

Its just a ground attack plane, nothing more than that.

I would say much more. It will of course be an attack aircraft of note, given its pedigree. No reason that it can't be the same in an air-air role. Especially given the known qualities of it Bayyenat-1 radar and for instance Sidewinder AIM-9-- or Azarakhsh-2 WVR missiles, shown.

As for BVR missiles. Better that I wait for the next morsel the powers-that-be in Iran decides to throw out. If GIDS had really copied its FAAZ-1 BVR AAM from PL-12... .

What would prevent Iran from doing the same, had PL-12 for Dowran actually been delivered.
