What book are you reading?

Do you read in paper? I read in electronic devices since the age of Nokia Symbian phones.

Nothing more comfortable than a .epub file.

Project Gutenberg is a nice web for royalty free books in electronic format.

By the other side, I dont want to make richer the heirs of Kissinger snake. I would get his .epub files anywhere but paying for it.

I prefer paper, but can't afford to buy all the books that I want in paper, so I've been using Kindle as well. The whole Wheel of Time series, for instance. A minority segment of Georgette Heyer. All of G. A. Henty (I'm a closet imperialist at heart, and love hating the British being racist - Henty actually uses the word 'nigger' or 'negro' in various places). That equally racist - and closer to our ambience - Edgar Wallace and Sanders of the River (along with his sidekicks, Captain Hamilton - Militini - of the Hausas, and Lt. Augustus Tibbets - Bones - the cross that Hamilton has to bear). Lovely reading about Bosambo, who reforms the Ochori and makes them a martial tribe, standing up to the Akasava or the Isisi.
<sigh> No can pay for these, so they're on Kindle.
It's weird.
Bellarion the Fortunate is in book form, and I LOVE it, but Scaramouche is in Kindle, along with the rest of Sabatini. Incidentally, Bellarion was shockingly accurate with historical detail, including specific characters and their fates. Only the characters of Bellarion, and perhaps the Palaeologus princess, the sister of the heir to the throne of Montferrat, are fictitious.

Reading this one and for first time using stick notes to make notes. 50 pages read and until now a dam good book.

Read a short synopsis. The part about the US wanting to incorporate Russia and China into the western economic and political order sounds particularly interesting.

I dont have electronic ink devices.

I just use smartphones as reading devices.

People can spend hours reading IM or webs in a smartphone, but they can't read a book in the same screen, I dont understand why.

I can't.
Weak eyes, that being why they wouldn't even let go for the SSB (I only wanted the Navy, uninterested in the Army, and motor skills not good enough for the Air Force - my Mama, wretched man, got both the RN and the Fleet Air Arm).

O yes in fact there was a major thought in minds of many in USA that Russia should be made part of European Union and eventually even NATO. Basically west was delusional as hell after winning cold war. The modern cold wars are far more dangerous as in this one China and USA are interdependent. Which wasn't the case between USSR and USA

Fascinating. Yeah the interdependence in this rivalry is unique. Normally interdependence leads to a normalization in relationships e.g. many EU and ASEAN nations. However in the great power context it seemingly does not seem to work that way.

The lust of becoming the ultimate power is maybe so strong I suppose, that said powers are willing to risk their own economy's and well being to win it all.

Great powers care greatly about how powerful they are relative to other great powers because this is the best way to survive. In a world without a central authority, the balance of power becomes crucial. Economic interdependence, while promoting trade and cooperation, often falters in the face of security concerns. States will prioritize their survival over economic ties, particularly in crises. When faced with threats, great powers will revert to realist calculations, viewing economic partners through the lens of their relative power, rather than as reliable allies. This is why economic Interdependence theory loses to the realist theory and this is the tragedy of great power politics.
