Green light for Eurofighter from Germany for the Turkish Air Force

That's been Europe's posture for several years now thanks to understandings extracted from the Russo-Ukraine war. They are reviving their defense industries. It still doesn't explain Turkey's actions, because any Viper or Typhoon acquisition would take years to occur. There are hot wars popping now and up to a decade ago that could involve Turkiye.

Does Turkiye want to be a Ukraine or Russia? That is the question it must answer before acquiring anything this important again from unreliable partners.

In fact, the best way to be protected from NATO is to be part of NATO. We have to be in NATO because of our national interests. We are here until one day US have to choose between Israel and Turkey.

Strange line of thinking.

So Turkey is being held hostage as of it does not become part of the terrorists, they will be attacked.

Turkey needs to start moving away from this evil and have a plan and timetable to achieve this.

It is a pretty fighter, but as long as Türkiye depends on spares from the European sources it is problematic. The EF would be truly a good acquisition if Türkiye also got some spare assembly and ToT.

The Turks became masters of the F-16. If a similar thing could be achieved with the EF Türkiye would be on another level.

The radar of Eurofighter Typhoon is unique because, although it is an AESA radar, it can still be mechanically steered like a PESA radar, providing a wider angle of coverage. The Indian UTTAM AESA radar, which is being installed in the Su-30MKI, follows a similar approach.

Turkiye has already its own technology to produce KAAN Fighter Jet

ASELSAN - HAVELSAN - TUBITAK - MKE - ROKETSAN have their technologies to equip a Fighter Jet with AESA Radar , EW Suite , IFF System , HMDS , EOTS , IRST , DIRCM , Mission Computer and all kinds of Weapons

So there is no technology that can learn from EF platform
We dont need a TOT from Eurofighter ... It would be sufficient to integrate Turkish weapons into EF

We need only 5th gen turbofan Engine
and TR-MOTOR / TEI together develops it .....

It would be a massive bonus for Türkiye if it got some ToT. You are right though. Türkiye can and will learn a lot by acquiring the EF.

This version of Eurofighter is a serious threat to any export model F-35 and maybe even the US version as well.

It will have edge in radar and electronics, higher top speed/ceiling and ability to supercruise at Mach 1.5 with its twin EJ-2000 engines. RCS of 0.1m^2 with semi-recessed air to air load will also mean that it won't be easy to detect from long range.

Green light for Eurofighter from Germany

Germany had previously obstructed the acquisition of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets for the Turkish Air Force, has now allowed the commencement of technical discussions. A technical delegation from the UK, Italy, Spain, and Germany has arrived in Turkiye. The talks are expected to last for three weeks.

The obstacle posed by Germany regarding Turkey's request to procure 24 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets, produced in consortium with four European countries, is being removed. It has been learned that the German government has approved the start of technical discussions regarding the sale of Eurofighter Typhoon.

24 FIGHTER JETS TO BE ACQUIRED IN THE FIRST PHASE

According to information reported by NTV, if Germany gives final approval for the sale after the technical discussions, Turkiye will acquire 24 Eurofighter fighter jets as soon as possible in the first phase. In later stages of the process, this number will be completed to 40.

With the procurement of Eurofighter fighter jets, the Turkish Air Force will have aircraft equipped with AESA radar for the first time. Experts emphasize that Eurofighter will be the most suitable solution during the interim period until the entry of the national fighter jet KAAN and the F-16 Block 70 fighter jets into the inventory.
Congrats for Turkey. These Eurofighters look top notch.

Turkey a NATO member making Kaan is begging EU for Eurofighter ?

how does this make any sense

Short term and long term. The KAAN will take a while to operationalize, and go into mass production.

Price per unit, production rates and roles of aircraft are also a factor.

There is no such rule in technology

the best example is Turkish UCAV technology
Turkish AKINCI UCAV is superior to American MQ-9 UCAV

Türkiye is developing a system by adding the latest technologies
even there will be AI supported capabillity

Advantages Over Mechanical Systems

ASELSAN’s AESA Radar System MURAD 110-A, which represents a leap forward from traditional radar systems, uses a grid of thousands of tiny transmit/receive modules, unlike mechanically scanned radars that rely on moving parts for antenna beam steering. This allows for rapid and simultaneous tracking of multiple targets, providing pilots with enhanced situational awareness. The result is not only improved detection capabilities, but also the ability to engage multiple threats with a high precision.

The implications of this technology are profound. In air-to-air combat, where split-second decisions can mean the difference between victory and defeat, the enhanced tracking and targeting capabilities of MURAD 110-A Radar offers a significant advantage. Pilots equipped with these systems can identify and engage enemy aircraft with remarkable accuracy, even in the presence of electronic countermeasures designed to obscure radar signatures. This edge is critical in modern warfare, where stealth and speed often dictate the outcome of engagements.

AESA Fire Control Radars: A New Era in Air-to-Air and Air-to-Ground Missions

In the air domain, AESA radar is the heart of 5th generation fighter aircrafts. AESA radars allow for comprehensive situational awareness, enabling pilots to detect and engage multiple targets at great distances. The ability to simultaneously track and target various threats makes MURAD 110-A Radar indispensable for air superiority and precision strike missions. The enhanced resolution and accuracy of MURAD 110-A Radar significantly improve interception capabilities, ensuring that defensive measures remain effective in the face of sophisticated threats.

The use of AESA radars allows for effective ground surveillance and target acquisition, making them invaluable in multi-role UAVs. This versatility means that aircrafts equipped with AESA technology can adapt to a range of mission profiles—from air superiority to ground support—without sacrificing effectiveness.

In conclusion, the integration of MURAD 110-A fire control radar into fighter jets and UAVs is a game changing development in military aviation. As military forces continue to adapt to the complexities of evolving threats, AESA radars stand out as a game-changer, reinforcing their position as a critical asset.
My bro do not try to convince anybody about Turkish capabilities i prefer to take everybody friend and foes by surpise when the time comes and when it is necessary on the field. When we (Turks) enter the battlefield everyone will witness our superiour power and capabilities (just as was the case during the Ottomans).

Maybe it's just me who is confused here, and I am trying to understand but getting mixed signals from the Turkish Air Force.

So there exists a domestic upgrade program for the F-16 to bring it up to Block 70 equivalent standard called Ozgur and the program is in full swing. Several hundred F-16 in inventory. Then why 23 billion dollars for a handful of new Viper and 79 upgrade kits?

Then you have the Eurofighter Typhoon entering the equation. Last I was aware of, F-16 Block 70 isn't some MiG-21 in front of the Eurofighter. It can most definitely hold its own. Why go through humiliation by the Germans who have been in Turkey for more than a week now trying to get promises out of them not to use the weaponry against Greece? Not to mention each Typhoon will cost nearly $300 million dollars including spares, maintenance, training, etc.

All of this while major platforms like KAAN and Kizilelma are nearing completion within the next 5 years.

Does Turkiye plan to invade Mordor that it needs such a massive air force immediately? The deals being contemplated with the US and Euro Consortium aren't even going to be delivered quickly, sure a dozen Eurofighters might be ready by 2026 or 2027 but what will that really achieve?

Does Turkiye really expect someone like Germany, who has been ready to humiliate Turkiye politically at all opportunities for the past 15 years or more, to participate in the building of this massive cutting edge air force?

To me the logical way forward is to modernize the F-16 in house and bite your tongue till KAAN is operational.

Turkiye claims to produce 80% of all defence products indigeniously and aims for 100% within the next decade. Eurofighter Typhoon and Vipers and kits from the U.S. are steps that are going to take you backwards.
Turkish airforce has 220 or 230 F-16’s iirc and these fighters need to be up to date at all times otherwise they become obsolete very fast. The answer is simple as that.

I mean Turkish F-16 should always be on par with Greek and Israeli’s F-16’s atleast. Now with Ozgur we’re a step ahead of them aswell in term of F-16 capabilities.
